I’ve got this one stashed in my buddies barn. My pigs are taking up all available space at my place. Unless a miracle happens I won’t be able to even clean this thing until June. The old Oregon plates are staying for sure. Once I get it cleaned up I’m gonna see what the best course of action is. I think for me it’s going to come down to what the floors look like. The body seems to be pretty rust free. Or at least it doesn’t have gaping holes in the front fenders like Marge

Knocked the first layer of grime off of her today. Posted in the preserving patina thread in the 40 section and got some good advice.
Going to power wash it then give it a good wash with a mitt and some soap.
Excited to see it’s got the full compliment of under seat long tools. And the mat looks to be in pretty good shape!

More pictures. The amount of Doug Fir needles on this thing was amazing. I’ll most likely be finding them for years.

@greenbeast I think that’s just a line from where a roof basket rubbed the paint away. The paint on the roof is actually the roughest part of the entire rig.
Looking at the pics on my phone, the body looks really straight, I’m jealous.
If you want my professional a.k.a. non-professional advice. I would do the following.
I would start with a good old fashion pressure washer with a foam soak/rinse.
Hand wash with sponge/mitt using dawn dish soap as your base. Don’t be afraid to use a lot of it, it’ll pull off oil wax, grease, etc.
If the organic remain you might try a soft nylon bristle brush. Think wheel brush.
Then inspect. From there some wax, polish, compound or even hi cut compound could really bring back these old paint jobs.
I suggest finding a good spot and trying the least aggressive method first, and work your way back to figure out what the paint needs. All you’re doing is trying to flatten the paint back out at a microscopic level.
Meguires has an all in one that actually pretty good if you want to shine up an oldie like this. All the paint was single stage until much later meaning the gloss is built into the color, not like today where the clear coat sits on top of the color.
