So, if you can’t tell, there was a issue with the trailer trailer brackets, so I was looking and measuring 80 and 55 parts and deciced to go with a body swap. I think it will be easier and cleaner than trying to swap 80 suspension or even put leaves on the 80 rear axle with all the brackets on it. I love driving an 80, and one that has a V8, manual, and has a Pig body will just be the coolest s*** ever.

.....pulling the pig body tomorrow.... the entire chassis is going to good home....:pig::pig::pig::pig:p

Ive pretty much decide not to lower rear coil buckets. Yes, a “body lift” as a whole is frowned upon, but that’s not really what it is. It’s not a 2” piece of plastic because you won’t buy nice springs, it’s just where the body happens to fit. Going to fab body mounts and use small bushings and put the body where it sits. It’s maybe 1” off the frame.

Deo, the Surf Wagon, after all the work to drop the buckets, had issues fitting the 100 series transmission and Tcase because it all hung down so low. Had to tear up the floor pans and raise the body anyway. And dropping the rear suspension at ride height gives you less spring options because you already have a 1.5” lift.

I’m going to put in some 2.5” OME 80 springs and with raising the body 1”, I think that will get me 4” or so on the 55 which will be about right for 35”s

55s are 600lbs lighter than an 80 is stock. I have a 55 gallon tank, 35” spare, will have tubing bumpers and sliders, and a winch. Think it will be about 80 stock weight or just a little more.

This isn’t a well traveled road and if I have to swap springs in the the end, oh well.

Probably about to drop some $$ on nice shocks. Generic 80, non adjustable stuff probably won’t give the results we need

I like the stance of it!

I know she won’t stay that low, but I like the width. Maybe not too much higher. Those are the stock 80 springs, but there is no engine or fuel or anything installed. I’m going to put on some OME 2” and see how that shakes out once it’s weighed down.

Looks sweet ! nice work

Sold the front diff to Cruiser local this morning and decided to go ahead with engine pulling while the non running vehicle was inside.

only thing holding it in is the fact that it’s sitting on the motor mounts. Going to grab one of my kids to help me physically yank it out tomorrow.

the UZ/FZJ/55 got a little bath while she looked on and dreamed of her heart transplant.....

The guy I bought the LX470 stripped the hell out of it before I bought it. I had a friend pick it up and the pics that were sent to me originally were not what was picked up. That being said, I spent 2 hours trying to find all the plugs and connecters and wires and everything and wire diagrams to make sure I had the theft deterrent/immobilizer parts. It was all scattered abound the truck. In the end, I “think” I do have the parts. Waiting to hear back from the harness builder and my friend Ben at Slee.

Nice to see custom work like this melding various vintages of the same model.

I’d hate to know of the 80 body was rust free. I’ve been battling rust on my wife’s 80 since we bought it and just finally found a clean carcass truck for swapping mechanicals to someday.

@69LC

Thanks! Anytime I drive my current Pig I smile. Ive had a ton of 80s and they are great drivers and wheelers, but don’t have soul like the classics. Having the Toyota motor that has gone over 1,000,000 miles in two tucks with a manual behind it is just gravy.

the body was rust free, but all in smashed in the front and very picked over. I couldn’t just store it waiting for someone who needed a rear 1/4.

I’m renting a single bay in my buddies shop right now but I just bought 3 acres near my house and am planning on a pretty decent sized shop for myself and some enclosed RV/boat storage as well. We’re about 8min from the lake and 8min from University of Alabama campus. Lots of folks willing to pay $$ to store their $80k-$500k RVs. Get some semi-passive income rolling

When you like all the ingredients that go into a pie, the result will always be awesome.

Like the blend of parts you’re using, end result should be a keeper for sure!

After camping and fishing, the 3 kids and I got free milk shakes in the drive through because the lady liked our set up so much. 55s are such great trucks.

I know I will enjoy the “modern” suspension and drivetrain in the new one. By modern, I mean the best Toyota had to offer 30 years ago :pig: :pig: :pig:

Going to miss the red one in a few months when I sell it, but doubt I can maintain the double bacon.
