Isuzus are great trucks, we have 3 troopers and they are bullet proof.

The 3.5 is a great engine but keep a eye out for oil consumption. There was a flaw in the pistons at some point (iirc 98-00) that causes them to sometimes burn excessive amounts of oil. If your 3.5 has a screw in pvc valve its the newer design that doesn't burn oil.

Congrats the vx is a very cool rig.

To my knowledge this is only applicable to Troopers, VX's were basically hand built rigs, and as far as I know aren't effected by the oil consumption issues like the Troopers are. Like I said, not 100% sure on that, and the place to look that up would be the Vehicross forums.

I have not bought it yet, One thing that bothers me is the noisy valves. You must shim them on the regular adjustment. and she had the 100k service done at a tune of $2k a few years ago. OUCH!

Man, now you have me secretly lusting after these things. I didn't know they were that sought after.

Fawk!!!!

I'm an owner.......................

I just finished putting an oil base dressing on the cladding for the third time. Trying to get it to soak in deep.

Matt and the guys at Indy4x are the Slee of the Isuzu world

Agreed! Independent4 has the most experienced personnel and the most Isuzu aftermarket parts. You can also check out Calmini. They make lift kits and engine performance parts for the VX.

In addition to the VX forum, you may want to check out planetisuzoo - An Isuzu SUV Club

I've been looking at getting one of these myself. $4,000 is a steal!

Good luck!

NOS mats are $59

NOS rear cargo reversible mat is $39

Valve adjustment is $550

Rear emblem is $138

gets expensive quick, but what doesn't?

FYI Isuzu's are know for having valve lifter tick...nothing to be alarmed about if you keep the valves adjusted properly

valves need to be adjusted every 15K miles IIRC

Nothing against the product that Calmini sells as they make very good stuff, it's just that their customer service leaves a lot to be desired...and this is from personal experience.

Matt and also Joe Darlington are both very active in the Isuzu community and as a result their customer service is top notch.

and x2 on checking out the Planet...it's kinda like the Mud of Isuzu's

Im pretty sure that only applies to the 2.3 and the 2.6l engines, but yes Isuzu engines are not known for being the quietest.

+2 on planetisuzoo, it is the i8mud for isuzus. my sn is zomgtrooper

nope, it also applies to the 3.2 and the 3.5 as well

some vehicles have the tick, others don't...like my Luv for instance, it has the G180Z which is also prone to having the tick...yet mine is one of the quietest I've ever heard

I have the tick on my 3.5L. Annoying as heck. Thanks for posting about the lifters. I was going to check that next.

My UN is zoogirl on Zoo

my 'Zoo un is the same as it is here

haha you want to hear the tick listen to my dads slx, it has the super loud 3.2 sohc super tick engine

Anyone know if the adjustment is covered under the powertrain warranty? I only have 54K on the 3.5 DI.

I would say not as it is maintenance...

I'm paying for it next week.

There's one running around Fargo that's lifted and looks cool IMO. No idea if they work off road or not, but with that wheel base, lift and tire size, i would think they should work pretty well.

they do, very well for an IFS rig in fact

we'll put it this way...I've embarrassed J**Ps on a regular basis with my LUV...I know that's not saying much, but when you're walking up stuff in 2wd and 215's that a Jeep with 33's and is in 4x4 can't get up...well :D

I think they'd be an awesome ice fishing rig for getting around on the lake in the winter. You'd float over everything and weigh next to nothing. They look like they'd practically float like an ATV with those big tires. :)
