I know on the 4BD1 V 4BD1T, the T has piston oil jets and so on that the NA engine doesn't. Might be a good idea to check if there's anything like that in this case.

6BG1T pistons will be easier to find than 4BG1T.

I think you've got thermal cracking (high EGT) which has led to parts blowing out. Cleaning the oil from the pistons gently will show if they've been torched by an injector spray.

Thermal damage and crack initiation could be prior to your build. How well did you inspect the pistons before using?

Even industrial 4BG1T will have oil spray. Non turbo pistons may not have the reinforced ring-lands. Do not consider any unreinforced pistons in a turbo Isuzu!

Inspection of the pistons was only visual, I did not have any special tests run so its very possible it started before

I inspected the motor today and took a bunch of pictures. Skirt of piston is scored and the ring lands were melted a bit

Sleeve was scored as well

Injection nozzle had pitting like it had been melted

Other 3 cylinders and pistons looked perfect.

Machine shop wait was going to be 2-3 weeks at best, new OEM motor can be here this week.

So many pros of getting a new motor at this point I went with a new OEM motor. Going to swap my turbo, injection pump, timing cover and power steering pump over and will be good to go.

Flicker link to ~30 pictures of motor and damage

Gnarly duude! Whats the projected cost of getting her up and running again? I'm sure money doesn't matter at this point. You probably just want to get to mexico, eh?

So at the end of the day you think an issue with the injector caused the overheating and damage in that one cylinder? Would be interesting to get that injector tested to see visually exactly what was going on and how bad it was. Maybe it was leaking constantly? Or just really bad spray pattern?

Before the failure could you tell anything at all was wrong? Slightly uneven idle or smoke or anything like that?

I think you've made the right choice in the interest of time and reliability just to go with a new motor. Comes with new injectors I assume?

I believe this is correct yes, I have a bad injector to send back with the core so I am going tosend injector #2 to the place that built them for analysis...

Before failure it is hard to tell because my only experience with the motor was as it was. It did seem to have a rougher idle then it should have occasionally, and after the second day on this trip we had a colder then usual night and startup involved burning lots of oil until it was warm.

Pictures went out to a few different places for analysis as well.

New Motor from Isuzu comes as a complete motor, flywheel to fan and eliminates all the variables that could have caused this. I also get new OEM liners, rods, bolts, crank, cam, and a litereally brand new everything including a spare injection pump that I'll have to swap the governor on but I have a spare governor setup as well.

Cost was not a lot more then trying to rebuild the current motor because I have a core to return and after factoring in living costs in San Diego for the extra 2-3 weeks required actually make the rebuild more expensive. Money is definitely a factor for us but at this point all of the options cost the same amount of money. Fortunately the fastest option comes with a lot of benefits.

Thanks to Penden 4WD in Port Kells I got a 95 Liter Dometic Dual zone fridge!

Anyone knows who sells this size and model/make here in the US?
@kowalski where in Canada (vendor or store) did you buy from?

Any info much appreciated...

tough decision, but I think you made a good decision, given your circumstances.

Your engine should outlive the rest of the truck by about two decades

Fridge has been awesome by the way. I think you can get the off Amazon.com

Yeah Amazon doesn't sell that model just yet..
I contacted the vendor

I have a 12v fridge same size, but the dimensions don't jive with my plans and the 60 cargo series...
Thanks for the comeback....

Well dang....!!
I stand corrected..!!!

Thank you!!!
