New is sure appealing. Particularly if you can maintain the original look. Is the new stuff smooth & flat, or does it have some ribs/shape to it like most of those trailers used?

This is shaping up to be an awesome trailer.

very awesome build! im working on a 1960 terry. dealing with the same rot issues. your work is very clean. i did not pull the skin off of mine just trying to attack the issues from the inside. keep up the good work!

Iwould love to see some pixs of your Terry sometime

I was able to find a place that will sell me enough .040 flat aluminum skin by the running foot to do the whole trailer . Its 103" wide X 48' long . Most places I called sell it by the pound and would have to buy a minimum of 20K lbs

I'm planning on ordering it on Monday and they will call me when it ready for pick up.
I'll see if I can get it cut into the 3 sizes if I can , if not no biggie as beggars can't be too picky .

To help others who may need to find this its called "aluminum roof coil" and fleet trailer supply places sell it .like this one (FleetPride National Parts Guide ) both places I called would have to order it but the place willing to sell it to me keeps it in stock but have one of the customers cut it for them to sell to me.

Picked up the aluminum this morning before work . I didn't realize how heavy .040 is , (that and it being 408 sqft in one piece) sort of impressed actually.
I got a 3 day weekend coming up , So maybe I can get it cut into the 3 parts and make it more manageable ( that's if it doesn't rain/snow or some other nightmare happens  )

Right tool to the right job

Cuting it was a 5 min job , right?

Roll out 48 feet of goodness
The air nibbler gave me the the big "FU" about 5 inches into the 1st cut (aluminum gumming up the cutter) :frown:
So its getting late in the day so out come the colored handled hand tin snips. Well I got about 4 feet with them and was getting about 1/4 inch and now its almost dark and getting a little thin on patience .
Off to Home Depot for something , Find a set of tin snips that have the handle at 45degs up so I pick them up and as Im walking out of the tool isle I see a air powered metal shear so that going home too and what ever works stays and the other can go back as it now dark out and theres still 48 feet of aluminum rolled out into on the driveway and don't need someone to turn around in my drive on it .

The air shears are the bomb, cut that s*** in under a minute at each spot , in the dark then fought with it to roll it back up and move it with the Cruiser :princess: trying to wrap tape around it while i try to keep it from unraveling , in the dark .

Air nibblers + 18g 3003 aluminum = bad :frown:
Air shears + 18g 3003 aluminum = Good :bounce:

No pixs as it was dark :bang:

In Jullian California, there is a trailer park dedicated to pre 70 trailers. Was there a couple of months ago and some of those things are a work of art. It looks like yours will fall right in line. I had mentioned to the wife about playing with one of these. You have confirmed the idea. Great build and thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks everyone with the good words , as for the moment, I'm hopeing to start installing the skin this weekend but doing a refi on the mortgage so the house its getting a good once over since the days of the drive bys are over and they want to do an full assessment walk thru so its got to put on its "A" game (was hoping the snow would have stayed around as the yard took a beating from the all the rain ,hurricane in august and the nasty snow storm in late October) :hhmm:Maybe I can bribe the dude to make the #s better ;)

Yeah, i just spent over an hour going through this and no conclusion?! Awesome work! Would really like to see the end result for sure!

Still working on it , Today I got my old man to come up and help me cut the side pieces (little hard with just me and the Cruiser:princess: messing with 8' X12' sheet )into the classic canned ham shape ,unable to take pixs as he's of the Old farts asking "WTF are you doing???" if I pulled out a camera while working and he has places to go (what? who knows? , must be nap time :p ) It takes a act of god to get him to :steer: the 11 miles to here so no poking the angry gnome when he does make it :hillbilly:

This week I'm going to see about getting them mounted to the sides after work and snap some pixs
Dont worry more on the way very soon

2 steps forward one step back

little more work done tonight started putting on the skin on the left side , got the holes cut for the window and bottom door for the fridge . While working on the fridge door I ran out of battery on the drill so went and grabbed another from in the trailer . The 110v working fine but no 12v stuff :hhmm:
Checked for blown fuses , nope so start pulling and find one fo the ckts has a short , Yey !!! I drilled a screw right thru one of the wires in the wall .
Well now I know where that one is

So I calling it a night and pull it back and fix the wires tomorrow :o

heres on to the crappy pixs

Yeah , when buffed out it will be a rolling mirror blinding as I go :whoops:

:hillbilly:

What is that coming down the road? Is it a bird?...a plane?...is it SUPERMAN?!...NO it's someones SUPER SHINY TRAILER!!! Ahhhhh...I can't see! :D

Fixed the wires I was good enough to drill thru and replace all the bottom screws with #8 nuts and bolts as I was not having much luck with the sheet metal screws into the angle iron .
Cut in the top vent for the fridge but have run into a issue with finding parts i bought so tomorrow will be cleaning up ,cause I can't find s*** :bang:

Hard to get into a groove and have to keep stopping to find something .
