Just crossed this Aussie '70 FJ45 for sale on eBay. Write-up simply says it's blue, but nothing more on color.

... Might this be the elusive 'Cadet Blue' ??

... The year seems right. And country-origin of the vehicle seems right. And the vehicle type seems right (I'm thinking I'd once read Oz had Toyota conjure the color of 'Cadet Blue' to paint a fleet of ordered FJ45's, specific for the Aussie Navy - back in 1970.)

And to me, it almost seems as if original paint. ... And if so, I'd think this would therefore be quite rare... No ?

(I've only seen two FJ45's painted Cadet blue - and zero FJ40/BJ40's painted in the color - and the two FJ45's had been repainted to the color from some other color).

it "might" be the original color(but I bet it was white) but the paint is not original that is on it now

Hood spear and many other things on the exterior and interior parts.

I say white because....is from AUS, most came white or a light color

And I can see white under some that chipped off.

Not that originally paint is not possible, my 65 fj40 still has the factory paint and it will shine up nice on the sides(and inside) but it's not been baked in the sun for 40+ years.

Which means to me is that what we now see could actually be *any* color of blue. ... And that *if* the wearing-down paint of this FJ45 was once a fresh coat of Cadet Blue, then this vehicle is less than rare, but more simply the third '45 I've crossed that's been repainted as such - from originally a different color.

Thanks. ~Skydog

The only odd part, assuming it is a respray over white, is the passenger door where the weatherstripping is entirely gone. Weatherstripping in that condition is 100% original to the vehicle. My 71 was just like that after sitting for 12 years in a desert. Touch it, hard as a rock, push on it a little and it turns to dust. Why is the truck blue in that bare patch? Considering the rest of the intact weatherstripping is covered in blue over spray, one would think is was a cheap mask and blast, but if so, why is there not a patch of white where the stripping is entirely gone? But, you're all right, seems like it definitely is a respray, just maybe blue on blue or?

I don't really care one way or another, but I'm bored at the moment. Cool rig!

I had that same thought......and had no good reason ;)

This is the original paint. It is a little more grayish than the photo shows. Don't know the year of the truck.

This FJ45 showed up at my house on Saturday. A couple things to mention regarding the paint, it is definitely a re spray, but looks to be the same color as the original paint color, this thing was never white.
I think some of the angles and glare make some of the worn areas look white, but they are most assuredly blue, also the ashtray cubby wasn't painted over, another bad lighting angle illusion.
I have some work to do...

WOW !!! ... Congratulations !! ... Really Cool that you chimed in & let us know this fantastic outcome for this vehicle !! .. So tell us (or at least me :-) ) -- What color do you make it to be that it once was ? - - Might it have been Cadet Blue ? Or do you surmise some other blue, such as Capri ? ... Good Job... And Thanks !!! ~Skydog

Thanks! I'll bring it by once I get it legal and road worthy, brakes are a bit jangy. It arrived with a bad exhaust leak, horrible vacuum leaks on intake/carb. The exhaust manifold was just improperly torqued and a stripped nut. I also cut some new gaskets for the carb interfaces and rebuilt the carb and seems to have solved the intake leaks and poor running conditions.
