96 fzj80 daily driven for the past 4 years. 230k, original headgasket, w/p401 for the past 10k. Sounds like a pretty sketchy motor to me.......

I felt the same way after blowing head gasket a month after purchase...I was one of those naive buyers and should have asked more questions.
That being said, I love my stupid (said in a kind tone) truck anyway. It grows on you after a while. I've done the repairs and maintenance and am enjoying the fun times

These vehicles are a product of their environments and previous owners. Sometimes you get ones that were maintained, other times you end up with ones that were completely ignored for part or most of their lives.
If you don't know what you're doing when you buy them, you can end up with one of the latter units, then you'll end up paying to get it back into decent shape so it can then return the favor to you and be as dependable as you expect it to be.
I got mine in 2005 with 65K on it, for $16K (way too much, but it was in immaculate shape, and gas was $1.50/gal), then proceeded to spend another $8k and hundreds of hours on it over the next 7 yrs, building it into the most capable vehicle I've ever owned.
Did I mention that it's all been fun? I guess it's all in how you look at it.
Don't let it get you down, just consider it a privilege to have an 80 in a great place like Idaho.BTW, the 95's were the best year.

(before now she thought all cars stopped working at 100K miles) that is the hard part. The brown truck should be here today with all the EGR parts. Hope to get it back together soon. Sierra,
Sounds like you're catching up on much needed PM so it'll be a uphill battle for a while. Make sure that your SWMO is on board with this new world. My '96 is known as the "other woman", according to my SWMO and she's totally cool with that!
Is there a Idaho chapter of Mud community where you can hang out?
While I totally agree with this statement.......Wrong. The motors are not hit or miss. Previous owners are hit or miss.

Bite the bullet, endure what little pain she gives you, and keep the last truck you'll enjoy so much.
