I have tachs on all my rigs, along with vacuum gauges. I think a vacuum gauge is one of the best gauges to have for engine diagnosis.

How is that? Detection of a leak in the system, obviously, but what else?

Really? You can diag all kinds of issues I don't have time to type into this reply, as well as using it as a fuel-mileage gauge.

For example:

Reading your vacuum gauge

Now that's cool!
Never knew that.... Interesting.

For most modern engines? It's kinda nice but far from necessary..

Your motor won't let it over rev ;)

I agree, it's a reliable, well built chevy 5.3. Bounce that F'er off the rev limiter!!:steer:

Never hear much about anything other than autometer. VDO is something I recently saw at summit.
Like I said... The price is pretty good for E gauges.

Ill try em out.

Thanks for the input.

FWIW VDO is the OE supplier of some BMW gages...they make good stuff IMHO.

VDO supplies to most german automakers including Porsche, Audi, and BMW (okay, theyre bavarian). I've run them in quite a few cars, have a set of Stewart Warners for my moms corvette, and ran Autometers in my dads street/strip car. They all performed equally.

Fun fact: Sunpro is owned by Snap-On, their tachs are nice for the price.

I like Stewart Warner, I have one of their oil guages, and it's built, plus the quality and support is always there.

I bought various gauges from these guys. I have them installed but since I havent fired my motor they havent been used yet although the light up real nice. I think they seem reasonable for the price.

to me the tach is kinda a waste because the times when you need to look at your tach you can't even think about it or take your eyes off what your doing

i put mine in the middle of the dash along with the rest of my guages so my passenger can watch them for me lol

I've had Glow Shift gauges in my diesel pickup for about a year now. I added five gauges and they are all working good except for the fuel pressure gauge. I just found out that it maybe should of had a snubber in line before the sending unit. It also has done some screwy things with the color shift. But, overall I'm satisfied with what is maybe not as good a quality product as something like Autometer, but much more affordable.
