You are crazy....

Enough to to make it happen. Do it :)

It's a tall motor but custom body mounts with a little built in height seem like they wouldn't pose a problem for you. How far off is the wheelbase. 114 and 140 or something I believe.

Landcruiser wheelbase is 112.5, the tacoma is 127".
From the top of the frame to radiator both are at 21 1/2".
Both dashes are at 59" wide.
The motor is obviously longer but if I delete the fan and go electric push fan I can shorten it by about 5" which enables me to move the radiator core support back. This makes it almost perfect for the tacoma front sheet metal to hang.
I'll be keeping the lc radiator and a/c parts as well.
As for doors and windows I should be able to just tie the tacoma doors into the lc harness. I'll have to figure out how to retain the remote key function, which shouldn't be too difficult.

I would put the 80 axles under the Tacoma frame with custom links front and rear personally. And just use the stock Tacoma motor.

He said the Tacoma's motor is on its last leg.

So rebuild it! or get a low-mileage used motor.

I can guarantee you the process and cost of rebuilding or replacing that Tacoma motor will be easier and way less hassle than putting a Tacoma on a Land Cruiser frame.

It will be worth it....to me.
There are a lot of things about the LC frame, suspension, brakes, axles, engine and transmission that are better than the tacoma 's bits.
Yeah, I could rebuild the engine but I'd still have 2wd tacoma with ony 3100lb towing capacity and a light rear that isn't fun in the rain or snow, unless you are in a vacant parking lot.
Besides that cut, weld, build is my therapy and it isn't all based on what is easiest or necessarily cost effective.
Legendary LC ruggedness with tacoma styling that would be my dream truck.

Started stripping it down and making more measurements.

Did you read what I said AT ALL about swapping the Cruiser axles under the Tacoma? Plenty of cut weld and grind there. Then put in some Marlin stock duals and you'll have a way more capable and light truck then you can ever make any Land Cruiser.

i put land cruiser axles in my tacoma with an old gear drive case. wasnt hard at all. i think you are going about this the wrong way. you can sell your land cruiser engine and get enough to buy a used tacoma engine and then some.

There are so many builds on here where one could say "why would you do that? When you could just do this."
The point is I want the lc drivetrain, frame, suspension, axles/lockers and brakes under the taco body. In my minds eye I see it sitting low on the 38s with fiberwerks 6"/3" fiberglass fenders front and rear.
I'm not interested in the most economical, easiest ALTERNATIVE PLAN or IDEA but I am interested in economical/easier ideas to achieve my plan as I stated.

You are nuts. But I like it.

I look at it like an adventure. Clearly you just like fiddling and building stuff and it's not about having something "practical". So do it. You'd just be spending you time and money on something equally as ridiculous. I cut up a perfectly good running/driving 60 because I wanted to. Now it is essentially worthless to anyone but me, but I had a great time doing it.

It's your truck. Do what you want. I love outside the box s*** and I would LOVE to watch this build! Good luck!

Sweet. X-cab 80 shortbed. I love it

There have been several ute chops but those lines you ended with look really good

There's some inherent unavoidable oddness like the centered cab but looks great.

Thanks jfz! I think it will really come together after I get the side glass in and the rear handles filled in.

fzj85 :o

Kinda reminds me of this, but in a good way:
