no timing light. I took some sandpaper and ruffed up the conectors under the cap and the rotor and it made a huge difference. It will start and run but still not idle. Louder than heck without the muffler attached as well. Definitely was some rust under there. I think i need a new cap and rotor if it is replacable.

ok, i have replaced the coil, rotor, dist. cap, and spark plugs. Definitely better but still no idle. Backfiring back into carb also. Got to be timing or vac. leak right?

Sounds like the distributor is 180 out....is your 60 desmogged? If it is then I would replace the remaining vac lines with new....if it's spaghetti junction like mine then I would just hunt the leak down and replace that hose

so do i just loosen the bolt, rotate the dist. or what? I am despmogged. Only a couple of lines to replace.

here is a pic of my dist. How do i looen it so that i can rotate it? Does the whole dist. get rotated or just the rotor? Help newb with tools at play!!

oops forgot the pic

There is a bolt that holds the whole dizzy on the engine. Loosen that bolt and the dizzy will rotate. If you haven't taken the dizzy out then I find it hard to believe that is the problem.

yeah i am gonna replace all vacuum lines and plug any holes i find and see what happens.

x2 on not the dizzy.

possibly coil/ignightor problems...vaccum problems...maybe depending on where it is. I've seen my 2f run a long with with a huge vac leak and she just idled high.

just replaced coil. Ruling that out. Starts almost every time now so ruling igniter out.

whats the chances of bad gas/water in fuel?

had just put half a tank in and ran sea foam after breakdown

fuel has an average shelf life of 30 days.

ethanol pulls moisture right from the atmosphere and leaves it right in your fuel tank.

Seafoam is a stabilizer but while you CAN polish a terd your still left with a polished terd even after all your hard work. Todays gasoline = cheap unstable crap

Diesel is the way to go!!!!

or a SBC swap.

I got a line on a MB om617...want a SBC pretty cheap???

lol...depends on what tranny set up you want to use!!!

i figure between 5 and 15K depending on how fancy (or all out) you wanna go!

personally i'd love to do another 4bd1t swap with either an nv4500 or 4l60e.

youd get great fuel mileage and if done right a rig that would have a drive train good for 300,000+ miles.

u havent even finished the swap u are on and already thinking of doing something else?

its alive!!!Its alive!!!!mmmmwwuuahahahahahaha. Anyway had a couple of vacuum leaks apparently. Plugged them up and vroom vroom. Gonna stay home today and put the exhaust back on and clean it up.

if i can get some side jobs lined up it will pay for all the crap i have panned for the 40!
