Well, after a lot of back and forth on what tire and tire size, I decided to give the 315/75/16 Toyo MT a try. The Toyos replace 35x12.5x16 Interco Trxus MT's that I have run for the past 5 years to great success on everything but that little issue of roundness. I ended up not siping them, but I may go back and have it done when I can test them in the snow if I'm not completely happy.

The Toyos come as advertised: they take very little weight to balance and run incredibly smooth on the highway.

The Toyos are noticeably louder than the Trxus @ 70 mph, even at 50% wear the Trxus were quieter.

I can tell that the Toyos have a greater tread contact (they have a wider tread) - handling is a bit sharper.

I love the way these tires look, they are such a good visual match for the 80. I will be interested to see if they are truly wider than the Trxus and cause some rear inner well rubbing at full stuff.

The key to my happiness will be winter performance, nothing to report yet. For now, it sure is nice to be running this smooth on this much rubber.

what is up with you? First all we hear is how re-gearing is a total waste of time, then you re-gear

Then there isn't 1 tire thread that you don't beat everyone over the head about the Trxus MT and now you have Toyos.

If you are going to beat it into everyone's head on a particular subject how about taking your own advise at least once. :flipoff2:

I did get the Trxus MTs and I doubt I'll run any other MT again. Those Toyos were way over priced as far as I'm concerned.

Best of luck with them

what is up with you?

I was posting back two years ago on Romer's thread asking about winter performance of the Toyos, and had a recent thread asking for input. I've said they would be a no-brainer if winter use was excellent, because of the roundness issue vs. Trxus.

Sometimes you can talk all day long about this stuff, and eventually you have to give it a shot. The Toyo is the only tire that has come out since Trxus that I have thought added anything to the game (roundness is large sizes), and I have tried to web wheel an evaluation, which is pretty worthless.

I don't know if I'll be happy or not. Trxus become more of a handful as they age in terms of keeping them round, and by all accounts the Toyos won't. Will that matter more to me if I have given up traction in important areas? No. Will it matter if they are equal traction in my conditions (no mud)? Absolutely, and worth the premium.

If I don't like them, I'll be back to Trxus and won't even think about it anymore. Well, I'll be thinking about 37's, but that will be it. Glad you like the Trxus, they are an awesome tire :D

I can guarantee you if I have Trxus level performance with this degree of roundness I'll be a permanent convert. So far they are louder but a lot rounder. Neither of those things has anything to do with traction. I may have been right all along with Trxus :grinpimp:

The toyos will quiet down after a thousand miles if not sooner.

I was not very happy with the road noise of my Toyo's, and I ran them for quite a while.

They're on the :princess: truck now, but she has a ton of sound dampening on there, so they're tolerable.

I wasn't real thrilled with the Toyo's, they tended to slip a fair amount on dust covered rocks (granted extremely slippery). I can easily see how in snowy/icy conditons they would not handle particularly well.

We'll see how they handle this year in the snow.

I dont think they are loud at all and compare to the BFG ATs I had on before. They provide me excellent traction and I have not had any slippage problems in Moab, the Rockies or on the Rubicon trail.

Course everyones truck is different and I do have a lot of weight on my vehicle.

That, personal preference, local conditions, driving style, and about a billion other variables will make it pretty user specific.

To each their own. :)

I'm not sure what the roundness thing is. I run dynabeads and they work just fine.

Give it two years :D. It's nothing major, they tend to be pretty PSI sensitive (smoother at lower PSI), maybe the beads help there. To be fair, I didn't rotate my trxus every 3K, more like every 6K, and that's not enough for those tires.

I'm a huge fan of trxus, nothing has changed. Curiosity kills the cat :grinpimp:.

The Toyos are like glass on the highway. I just had them at high speed on washboard and they did really well. They absorb the bumps without encouraging a lot of suspension motion.

This tire has a lot more lug void than the trxus, it's not surprising they are louder now that I've seen them, but it is noticeable. On the other hand, the trxus are shockingly quiet.

They are pulling slightly to the right, though, which is NOT supposed to happen with these tires. We'll see if that is a road crown thing with the tire newness. They are pretty "grabby" right now.

That goes away...

Remember I wheel mostly on either slickrock or granite, even BFG AT's stick to that stuff :D

I'm going to 37x16 trxus if I end up not liking them :hhmm:

the pull is from low caster.

Ah, right. It's a good thing that trxus compensated for that :flipoff2:

I didn't have a pull with those tires with OME CC bushings and trxus MT's, but I do have it with Slee blues and Toyos. Go figure.

Are these tyres really that expensive? I haven't really checked on them. Beowulf has them and they look cool but I haven't wheeled with him in awhile to tell if they make a rat's ass difference.

I'm happy with the Dunlop Mud Rovers that I bought for $105 a pop back in 2006 and still going strong to this day (buying a new set next month).

Absolutely, I even remember you posting how they correct for bad alignments.

I think they were close to hovering, too.

It would be pretty odd for the 2.5 year old tire with tons of lateral runout to drive perfectly straight and the tire that requires very little balancing to pull, don't you think?

$300 installed, and that was based on price matching. Original retail was $308.

They do look great, the tire is visually ideal for an 80 on 35's.
