Hi guys

Just found the inner front right side cv boot has a split in it. Not the outer cone shaped one but the inner narrower one

Looking online I see cone shaped repair kits that are glued on and replace the current one

Is a generic one going to fit this inner narrow shoes one please?

Any tips or fixes to keep it simple? As I’d rather avoid taking things apart

Thanks

That's you steering rack boot, not CV. You can replace it (or just keep an eye on it) , I had my mechanic replace one of mine a year or so ago:

Cheers guys

By the look of it it’s not a huge problem, providing I grease it up inside and seal the split?

Would it be wise to clean it and patch it up with a rubber patch and glue? Or some insulation tape to mould around the ribbed shape?

Thanks

the boot is more of a dust seal.
if there is oil inside the seal is leaking
which will be more than just changing the boot

There’s definitely oil has come out as it’s wet

I’m confused now does the oily residue leak indicate that I need new seals as well as the boot?

Yes. Unless it's coming from somewhere else. (Like from above)
It’s definitely coming out of the split in the rubber casing (boot)

I don’t know why I’m looking for on the seals is it possible you could advise on part number or what they look like please?

Thank you

Could this be the fix?

Would I be best to slide the boot off and inspect the seals first to see if they can be put back in? Or is it a lengthy job and easiest doing once?

Hey all

Updating on this with images

The seal (engine side) seems to be in and flush by the looks of it?

I removed it at is goosed anyway and got pictures attached

Exposed the knuckle too and it seems to be clean and healthy no signs of wear

Can anyone see anything to conclude if it’s a leaky rack or just a boot please?

Thanks

You cannot practically replace the Oings that are leaking - they seal the power steering rack. You can try adding AT-205 to your power steering fluid, which adds plasticizer to the seals and often stops minor leaks. It helped mine.
