Trouble shooting several issues with my 1975 HJ45 ...run ok once it warms up but I've no found the dip stick in the fuel injector pump is bone dry...how bad is this and how do I fill it to show some evidence of oil...?

Its not good at all, the pump would be toast quite quickly if its running without and bottom end oil. Any diesel engine oil will be fine.. use the dip stick port to introduce the oil, consider draining and refilling with specific quantity then noting position on dipstick for future ref.
