Have you considered a 70 series lwb? Most are rust free still, and their dimensions are nearly identical to the 60 series. Maybe you could buy that $3000 HZJ77 on used victoria, and swap a Prado body onto it to correct the damage from when it was rolled. From the firewall back they are identical, and that is where most of the damage on that truck is.

You can get a nice prado for 3k now too.....

Go for the 77 or 78 series gets my vote, plus the coils are far nicer than the leafs...

$9500 are you kidding me? Doesn't even come with a diesel engine??? You can get a diesel 80 for that price.... I know Jay isn't into 80s but seriously.....

Plus who wants an upside-down truck??? ************************************

I wouldn't do it personally. But if someone wanted a 'local' rust free low km example of a 60 bad enough and they had money to spend.... Look at how much work it takes to repair frames and bodies on these things. This is why I went for a LJ78. I'd rather improve a little engine than work on something that is rusty. I HATE rust with a passion.

If you want one, I've got my 2F in my silver FJ60 that I really dont need anymore

You've got to be able to pull it out, but it can be done

Ok I like the help but we said from the start no rusty POS. Did play with the Prado idea but not my cup of tea and the 2H doesn't fit to well, not to mention everything else that would be a pain, we put a 3l in one of those and it wasn't all that.

Did you see this one? Definitely not rusty, but probably is more than you want to pay: http://bc.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1982-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-SUV-W0QQAdIdZ537405639

He probably saw that one already.... like a few posts ago. :flipoff2: Wouldn't wheel very well on its roof, must be an Australian model.

I think local trucks will be a waste of time.

Keep looking at poorly running FJ62's south of the boarder that are lean in the rust department and don't cost an arm and a leg. Heck if you can find one with a blown engine we can use my truck/trailer to go get it.

Contact Mike at Metric Offroad in Grand Junction. metricoffroad.com
He has a lot of vehicles, essentially rust free in various stages of disassembly. He has his ear to the ground always for Landcruisers and may even know of something up our way in the Pacific Northwest worth looking at.
If you need better contact info pm me.

This is a I think the same guy who Dave purchased his mint tan FJ60, guy has been bringing them up and getting good dollars.

Rust free rigs for 5K most all day long in the states..

Hate to tell you what i payed for my tan FJ60..

I like the red one in Oregon....... Jay is pushing for a fj62...

He could sell off the tires and lift kit for a few bucks..Cruiserpilot has a set of mint BJ60 springs...

Saw an ad for a pig in the interior...has a v8 and likely lots of rust, but it does raise the question,
are you set on a 60-62 ,or are swine a possibility ?

in case you couldn't tell, I'm kinda in the hunt too.

Ideally I'd find someone who wants to swap for a tdi...:grinpimp:

(don't do the 77. you don't want to be one of THOSE guys...)

Whats up dude, you wanna be one of the cool kids in the 70s forum:grinpimp:

Yes, I have looked at a few pigs, but they are either really nice and cost a few bills or cheap and nothing is there. The biggest issue that I have with them there is not really any after market for them, ie panels. Plus I am getting cozy to the idea of power windows, the 40 had none of that s***! neither does the pig. I would settle on a 60 if I could find a 62 interior to swap in. One thing is for sure I better get one soon cause the house is stealing all my money, just started replacing windows.

.. flatten my brim, get some white framed shades...

Naah.

I think I've seen more guys like that driving 60 series than 70 series... That fits the bill for many of the people that bought 60's new in Canada. Well educated and wealthy people like doctors and businessmen that could afford a new land cruiser at the time. Occasionally I still see guys like that driving their minty 60's around Victoria.

70s are the successor to the 40s, and most of the folks that bought them new (some Japan specific models are an exception of course) bought them as tough reliable work machines, just the same as those that originally bought the 40 series. 70s are just an evolution of the 40 series meant for the same market for the most part. They really are sweet trucks IMHO. Sorry to digress, but just had to put my two cents in here.

Thats just me a spud playing around;)

Drove a few 1hz 7 series and liked them alot...

Not to start a LHD drive vs RDH, but plain and simple with my kids driving its not a option at my house..

No worries man, I totally hear ya. ;) My wife isn't really a big fan of RHD either, and when my kids get old enough, they'll be starting in LHD too. Someones gotta put a good word in for the 70's tho. :D I do wish there were more people on the island into wheeling 70 series as it would be good to share suspension ideas and stuff like that.

Poor Jay, all he wants is a nice 60.

If we all spent half as much time wheeling or wrenching as we do in front of our computers.... :flipoff2::deadhorse::flipoff2:

My small piece of advice to Jay: if 62 power windows are anything like 80s... I'd pass. They are nice when they work, but they are a real pain all winter long. Cold+wet = windows go down slowly and won't go back up without help. Mind you, I guess crank windows can get stiff too.

I think I found the elusive FJ62 rust free for a decent dollar....

Hard part is getting this thing before it is sold, down side to being on this side of the water and border...
