I'm very interested in using techstream to interact with my M-OBD equipped 100 series.
I've looked around and to my understanding you need
1) Techstream software
2) A 32Bit windows xp laptop
3) an adapter cable
Most of my searches came up with old threads and some complicated diagnostics talk and I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction here, most importantly if it will even work and links to the software and hardware(cable) needed.

Is the M-OBD plug the same as the OBD2 plug? I'm sure Toyota supports M-OBD just not sure the cheapo cables will support both protocols. Might be some other drivers to track down...

Stupid question, but what else is new. What's the difference between ODB II and M-ODB?

I'm still trying to find (acquire) a good working copy of Techstream, and even then, I'm not too sure it will work on an 06 LX. Come to find out, in 06 the LX departed from the LC in some small but inconvient ways.

M-OBD was used in countries which don't require OBD2 by law, I guess it's more cost effective and has less features than an OBD2 system.
The plug is the same but M-OBD has less used pins.

I run Techstream 10.30.029 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Windows 10 - it supports my 2000 LX as well as a 2014 FJ and a 2013 Prius v with the advanced tech package option (collision avoidance, etc.). While I can't confirm, seems pretty likely that a 2006 would be supported as well. 10.30.029 is around 150MBytes (so a little too big to e-mail), but if you can source it, I can help from there. What may turn out to be the really unique part could be the drivers for your specific cable.

Same here. I have Techstream 9.10 installed and it works on both my '98 LC and '11 LX. So I would assume it would work fine on an '06 LX.

Get one of the package deals on amazon or eBay that have the cable, software and drivers.

This came with some software. I've tried an windows xp and windows 7 both 32 bit. If someone has a no kidding bit of software that works, I have plenty of room on my google drive to drop it on!

It was all pretty frustrating my first time around as well.

I don't know about your specific purchase, and I'm willing to help, but first let's identify the problem.

First, identify the version of the Techstream software (I can maybe help from version 8.X up to 10.X) and the version of the cable driver software you are trying to get working (I know about 1.4 and 2.01, but have only experience with install of 1.4).

Then is the problem that you can't install Techstream, or you can't install the driver for the cable?

Or you can install, but can't get the cable to talk to the software or some other problem ???

EDIT: I may have spoken too soon about being helpful. I "HAD" Techstream running on a Surface Pro (1st gen). Then installed on my replacement Surface Pro 4. New system can't find the cable. Not sure why as the Pro 1 was running Win 10, maybe because it started as a Win 8? End result, I might not be as much help as I thought I could be.

Does the 64bit version that runs on newer windows machines run any faster than the 32bit version?

I run 9.30.002 on my Windows 10 64bit laptop. It connects to my 2000 4Runner, 2004 LX470, 2007 LC, and 2010 Tundra just fine.

Newer versions of the software will provide additional features/enhancements. The latest version 11.30.137 added support for some 2018 vehicles (LC500h, Camry, Yaris, and CH-R)
