On a part that is as crucial to maintaining the AHC system, I would rather not chance aftermarket. I’m also not sure what those little tips are on the end, as OEM ones don’t have that. You can get a set of 4 OEM shipped to your door for $600
What issue do you consider with 83,000 miles worth of use? Is your car at stock ride height with stock Springs and torsion bars and has had the fluid been regularly flushed in the system?
Toyota Dealers go far beyond usual pricing. Min +400%....crazy. It's a shame. We all have enough stuff to pay for and such dealers request just too much.
But I have to mention, at least in Europe, there's a major player on the market who imports all spare parts (and also cars) from overseas and this company defines the price! Hence dealers have to buy directly from this company's stock.
There’s a membrane within the globe. Best explanation I have heard is that overtime that membrane wears down or pressure pops it similar to an eardrum.
Without the membrane, the pressure doesn’t build/hold as it should. I’m sure someone in here has a more scientific or mechanical explanation, but in a nutshell, that’s my understanding.
I weighed all 4 of my old accumulators (25 years old, 336K miles, dated 1999) and both fronts and both rears were within a few grams of each other. So, I don't think the saturate with oil inside (as a failure mode), or the weights would vary from side to side.
Of course, like an idiot, I forgot to weigh the new ones before I installed them. Perhaps someone can weigh a brand new set on a kitchen scale (in grams) and let us know?

Pics show construction of OEM 'gas chambers' alias 'globes' alias 'spheres. Not fragile, almost indestructible with correct use and maintenance. The 'wear item' is the membrane (which flexes with every vertical movement of the vehicle on the road) -- should last around 10 years, sometimes more, sometimes less -- may depend on useage/mileage and vehicle application -- but will be much less if AHC pressures are not maintained within the FSM-specified ranges for AHC Front and AHC Rear, and much less if OEM Toyota/Lexus AHC Fluid is not maintained in good condition (and much, much less if incorrect fluid is used). FSM and/or Toyota/Lexus service schedules in Owner's Manual recommend AHC Fluid change at least every 6 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) -- or 5 years or 100,000 kilometres in Australia. For best 'hydraulc hygiene' and system longevity, consider replacing AHC Fluid twice as often as recommended.
What shipping method have people used with IMPEX to the states? EMS shows as the most expensive option but then it says DHL and FedEx estimates aren’t based on actual package size? I’m a little confused.

How did you get Impex to ship them? I tried ordering some on Saturday and when I got to the shipping part of the transaction, a warning clause came up saying that they can't ship anything potentially explosive - and they list gas shock absorbers as one of the items they couldn't ship. The statement said if customs turned the package away, there was no return reimbursement. That shut me down there so I ordered from Amayama. I received an email today stating they couldn't fulfill the order because "Japanese customs prohibits dangerous items from being shipped without an MSDS and that the manufacturer has refused to supply one".

Hmm, no one said anything to me about it, I did order a while back, it took a long time to get the parts to the warehouse. I am not looking forward to how this might end up. I paid for the package to ship earlier this week w/ Fedex, tracking just shows in process. Impex customer service has been awful as I have been inquiring about order status for a while.

I ordered 4 globes from Impex about 3 weeks ago. I kept going past the the shipping warnings. Was roughly $450 + $95 fedex economy. Order is en route in the Fedex system. Expected to arrive at my house this Friday. I will post if I have any problems.
The shipping price did change once Impex got their hands on the globes but in my case the shipping charge came in a few dollars cheaper than the original estimate.
