I am looking to source at least 2 Vertical Switches that are illuminated for my HID Lights and my FOG Lights.

I have tired one set that is a Momentary Contact that is illuminated but also has an indicator light once you push it in. The connector in the back does not match anything you might find in a Land Cruiser and I cannot get them to work.

This is a picture of the switch and the connector. The switch does NOT stay clicked in when the lights are on: Clear bulb on the illumination side / whit frosted panel with clear bulb on the indicator side.

Does anyone have an idea on how to make these work and what connector I might need?

Here is another option that I may be able to get. Not sure if these are still available. Does anyone know if these will work and if they use a standard connector on the back that can easily be sourced?

I am trying to figure out if these will work.

Rich,

Mot here (Yeah, stating the obvious!)

I've asked cdan a while back whether he would be able to find the connectors for these switches, but he said something like w/o the vehicle info. of the vehicles it would be nearly impossible to get.

And as I've told you before, despite what people might think, I know very little about vehicle electricals/electronics. So I don't know what the momentary contact means/does.

Your best bet might be to get switches that do stay clicked in while in operation, but again, that's just a stab in the dark!

I think I'm going to be able to narrow down the PN on the switch on Post #3 and will check to see if I can order it tomorrow, as well as possibly getting the skinny on the connector for it/them.

Sorry for the mess and the headache!

iirc the bottom switch(plug) is the same as a rear defroster switch

I'm with Mot, I would select one of the swicthes that positively clicks and is not momentary. Also, I would skip the indicator option since it is just another wire you have to work with. If you are using the Slee jumper harness the lights will go out with your main beams so an indicator wouldn't be essential.

Keep in mind that you can skip the connector and solder wires directly to the contacts if you take the switch apart to get better access.

btw, the bottom switch sort of looks like one off a Camry I was watching on fleaBay if that is any help in tracking the connector.

Toyota has a book with wiring parts, namely plugs and repair kits. It is possible these switches have a corresponding plug in the catalog. The problem is looking through the catalog can be a daunting task, given the sheer number of plugs in there. The easier way is to find a vehicle that had these switches (or one with a similar pin out) in them and look at the pn on the harness plug.

Female 8 pin non waterproof Plug 90980-11533 looks close to the switch in post #1 but hard to say for sure.
Can't find anything that looks like it will work with the second plug.

Rich,

Just called Toyota and found out that they have one switch that I think to be the 3rd switch in stock. Not sure how long it would take to get more of them.

Also, the connector which the 70sguy has posted (I'm not sure if that would be the one for the 1st/2nd switches, either) is available from Toyota. (Thanks, Sheldon!)

Mot if you come across a post 95 HDJ81 that you can check out the correct plug on, take a look on the back end of it where the wires hang out.. and see if it has the second 5 digits of the Toyota number.
Add the 90980 prefix and you can order it up.

I have some early HDJ81s in the yard and the switches are different of course.. unfortunately so is the plug.

Sheldon,

You mean the number(s) would be on the connector part or the switch part?

I'm looking at some spare switches for the 80 (most of them for the -'94 though), some with connectors, but do not see any 5-digit numbers.

If I order a switch or two for Rich, I'll see if I can bug my parts guy to see if he could come up with the correct connectors.

Thanks, again, for your input, Sheldon!

The connector on the harness.
See below pic. Add the 90980 prefix to the 11118 cast in the plug and order it up.
Not all the small plugs have numbers for some reason though.
To order the terminals and wire leads you need the Wire harness repair manual
There is a table in the back that references each plug number and gives a build list for
setting it up with the terminals and leads.

Thanks, Sheldon! (Again)
I'll take a look and see if the number is there at least on the ones that I've got in possession!

Corbet,

That would be too easy, wouldn't it? :hillbilly:

I tried to take a part my part-time 4x4 switch (4H), trying to figure out how it was constructed/designed and failed miserably (Had to order a new one because I can't put it back together, with two microscopic springs popping out, etc...  So it would be a challenge for a "-" man like myself!

Thanks for the tip/link, btw! (I knew about it but did not think about them!)

I need two...and non-momentary is preferred.

If you can get two with connectors, I am in. PM me and I will send PayPal for switches and connectors.

That's good to know, I bought a pair of those switches off ebay a month or so ago. They have the same pins but have no Toyota markings on them, maybe they are knock offs. I was wondering about the pins and which one does what, but I guess the defroster switch answers that question, perfect!

You can still get the illuminated vertical rocker foglight switch from Toyota, part number 84160-28010. It's the switch in post #1 of this thread:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/88916-toyota-fog-light-switch.html

You have to go to post #90 to get the correct part number (the one above is the correct number). I bought one from CDan last year but haven't installed it yet.

Sheldon,

FWIW, I've found three swithes that had connectors attached and found two of them to have the 5-digit numbers.

You (I) learn something new everyday!

Thanks again!

Cool. Both 90980-10799 and 90980-10996 show available in too.
82998-12340 is the terminal/lead number
If you really want to pimp your plug... the leads are available in with gold plated terminals
82998-12360

The part number is on the connector...not the switch....correct. That si why you need the connector to get the right connector. PIA but that is how it works.
