Why not run early Landcruiser latches?

When you order them look at the hardware sizing not weight rating. This one is rated at 400#. I finally ordered the 2000# rated one for my tire carrier latch.

I have finally decided to buy a pair of these latches and did another image cross-reference from an icon old school photoshoot that came out a month after my last post. as you can see. I had the right brand but the wrong model.

There are actually two versions used by Icon.

The picture above is the steel version. note the mounting plate at the bottom is curved up doubling as the locking latch.
The picture below is the stainless version. note the mounting plate being flat and the locking lever clearly visible.

This could be a killer idea. Did you end up doing this?
