I need suggestions on WHAT to line on my 60

On the b pillars i went all the way to the headliner. On the back i took off the tan plastic trim and had them go to the bottom of the paint line. its all covered by the side panels in the back. I followed the contour lines on the rear pillars. What i wish i would have had lined at the same time were the plastic b pillar covers and the plastic door sill guards. I dont think it would have look overdone- it would certainly match better since everything inside looks brand new now except those. Unfortunately when you get color match linex they have to clear all the lines and that adds a 300 dollar surcharge on top of everything. So getting that stuff sprayed would be expensive. I wondered about getting those wagongear panels sprayed when i get them. It would certainly look good, but im not sure if the linex would be too thick since from the pics it looks like the panels are pretty tight tolerance wise.

while were on it one more thing to look out for-- i did not have them fill any holes or spray over any bolts inside. However.... if i were to do this again i would get the drain holes sprayed over. When they spray the holes they make them much smaller and the grommets no longer fit. Some i could make work but others not. Now the backseat passengers have a great view of the street going by underneath:rolleyes:

Well, it sounds like I am complicating the issue rather than helping it along....so let me complicate it further. :D

First Joey, you should talk to me about this stuff!!!!
You mentioned you were going black, so I ran with that.
If you had talked to me I would have told you that I have a line on the plastic panels in a brown that SEEM to match the brown vinyl on the doors and wheel wheels. (Johnny, get that hunk-a-junk running and get it over here so we can see how it matches).
The other thing to keep in mind is that the coating I use on the panels is paintable, it can be coated other colors down the line, like say when you paint the truck.
I don't suggest line-xing the panels, I think the build would be to much and the hinges would get clogged up/doors would not close. (but try it and let me know:D)
The OTHER thing to think about is that I am trying to set up a relationship with a powder coater, right now we are working on the black, but a brown or beige on the panels may be an option (albeit not a cheap one as it would have to be a custom setup).
The OTHER thing to think about is that if you plan a full width platform, I can move the hinge up on the panels to accommodate lower platforms, negating the wings.
So I guess what I am saying is that you might want to hold off on installing those panels. :grinpimp:
This is the problem with the side panels, there are just way too many variables.

I say go brown. If you're planning on painting the outside of the rig let me know. I have access to my Dad's spray booth which could fit half of one of our cruisers at a time.

"D'Animal So are you gonna Line-X it for the heck of it?

If it for rust prevention, I have never seen the back of a seat rust.

I can pretty much tell you everyplace an FJ60 will rust. "

DAnimal, I disagree; the backs of the 60 series are rusted from the get go:

Haha, :flipoff2::flipoff2: Parts are coming on Tuesday or Wednesday, so by Thursday I should have it running, assuming it doesn't rain.

Well I was planning on getting the holes sprayed over, no need for em. But for the bolts, I am torn on this. Also what about the fuel sender cover? What did you do for those and the screws for it?

Ok black is fine, I am totally ok with running the black panels. To me its an accessory and it looks good black.

As far as the hinge location for the wing...well that would be interesting. I would first have to know what the size of my drawer set up was going to be. Then I would be worried about losing too much space on the door to get stuff in and out. Besides, it would be a year or so before I would even have something ready. So I think I am good with installing them. Besides if I changed my mind I'm sure there would be people interested in taking mine off my hands :D

The bolts are no problem- its easy to take off the body mount bolts and get it sprayed under there. It would suck to have to cut the linex away if you ever needed to remove the bolt. When i took it in to linex i had removed the fuel sender cover, rear pillar covers and any other removable panels. i had those sprayed separately so they would be usable still. Linex isnt that thick so they still match up well.

What do you mean by this? Like a clear coat?

Linex uses a base color for the actual lining, so a brown in this case. However to match the color to what you want and to make it look nice the linex is topcoated with some kevlar based paint. Thats the actual color you see. The topcoat is beyond durable, ive tried to scratch it to no avail.
Since 99% of what linex does is black- they charge you a surcharge of 300 to clear the black from all the lines and spray it brown. You can talk them down, i did, but the kevlar topcoat is an extra charge as well. All in all i payed 1300 for the entire job. Expensive, but i would do it again in a heart beat. My linex place had amazing attention to detail and their color match is spot on.

For the money I think you could upgrade the 60 in better ways. That's my opinion. Depending on how well yours goes over I may follow. :)

That is my opinion too! You can have any color you want, as long as it is black. Goes with everything. The side panels are a pretty big ticket item so I try to be accommodating.
And if you ever do want to sell your panels, you've got the most common profile, so you should have no trouble.

So with that all settled, my vote is for black Line-X, it will show off my panels the best. :D

Ok so I just got back from Valley Line-X in North Hollywood. Same outfit that does the TLC Icons.

They want $650 for the rocker panels in black.

They want $925 for the interior floor in black. +$200 to add a color to make it color matched brown.

THAT IS TOOOOO DAMN MUCH MONEY!!!! $1775 is more than I paid for the truck :p

So I am going to see what Rhino wants next. Gotta be cheaper

Damn. I'd do the rocker panels first if you had to make the decision between the two.

Ok just got off the phone with Lancaster Rhino Lining AND Valley Rhino Lining in San Fernando. Both of course wanted to see the vehicle condition to make sure it is how I am describing it.

• Lancaster R.L. estimated $600 for inside AND rocker panels. Only black is available.
• San Fernando R.L. estimated $450 for interior and $300 for rockers. They can do any color for an additional $150 AND there is a Costco coupon for $50 off AND after talking to him he said he would do whatever it takes to get as close to the Lancaster price plus the color just so I don't have to drive to Lancaster. So $850 (+/-) for inside AND rocker panels in the colors I want.

Oh I agree, thats why I am not going to do it myself. I have never used Line-X before. But I DID RhinoLiner my FJ40 and THAT was bad ass!!! Held up fine for the time I had it:
