I got an 80 (AGAIN) and I love it

Ladies and gentlemen I installed a Stage 9 Custom Camshaft from Brian Crower (specs attached) onto the LC with 1FZ-FE that had the stage 6 BC camshaft previously.

The idle chop is insane, there is no more vacuum left below 2000 RPM and it breathes well all the way up to 8000 RPM!

Beyond 7000 RPM it just sounds like a different engine, sounds possessed.

Running 6-1 Open Headers with a 6 inch collector extension.

Well to anyone saying the 1FZFE is basically a tractor motor 🤷🏽
Time to look for some 4.8 VTCs

@ToyotaIsLife I’m currently running Old Man Emu stock height replacement coils and shocks, and I’m considering upgrading the shocks for improved ride quality on washboarded dirt roads and rocky fire roads. The current setup is fine for lower speed more technical trails, but I wish it was more plush on small bumps and washboard and I wish the shocks controlled body roll a little better on the pavement.

I’ve never spent the money on high end shocks before, but now I’m considering King 2.5 or Dobinsons 3-way adjustable shocks.

I like the idea of being able to tune the settings on the Dobinsons shocks without removing them from the vehicle and disassembling them, but my preference would be shocks that are properly valved when they arrive at my door so I can install them and drive without needing to make adjustments.

Which King 2.5 part numbers are you running? How did you get your valving dialed in? Do you have any valving data you can share that would give me a starting point?

I think my OME springs are stiffer rate than the factory springs that you’re running, and I don’t do any high speed desert driving, so I don’t expect that copying your shock setup is exactly what I need. It sounds like you have a great setup though and I respect your opinions on suspension setup.

Its been some time, I decided instead of doing just an exhaust and intake that I would do headwork as well. I also replaced the OEM ECU with an Emtron SL6. I needed another excuse to keep practicing tuning, its just such a joy.

Full head, STOCK bottom end (OEM Pistons .50mm overbore, OEM rods, OEM crankshaft, OEM 1.1mm head gasket), STOCK Intake manifold and Throttle Body from GEN 2 1FZ-FE.

I would consider this a mild setup with a somewhat of an aggressive cam. It is still night and day from what it was stock, great power from the start all the way to a red line of 6000 RPM, even though it has decent torque down low you can really feel the powerband above 3000 RPM, you can feel the front end climb as it revs up gaining more and more HP. Whats great is that it does not sacrifice bottom end power and it feels more potent during part throttle and transient conditions. It dropped 3+ seconds 0-60 MPH, pretty good.

List of mods with cost:

*Local prices & labor costs

1. Head port by hand + honed deck ($750)

3. 1.5mm Supertech valves, springs, retainers (stock valve diameter is 1.2) ($850)

4. Stage 3 Kelford Camshaft, shimless (Camshaft: $1,580 without shipping, $300 to get it installed and balancd)

5. Injector Dynamics 1050cc injectors (6 channel fully sequential injection), Walbro 535LPH fuel pump, AEM Fuel pressure regulator set to 40 PSI ($1,500)

6. Emtron SL6 ECU (USD 2,800, loom was about $1k with labor including sensors like inlet air temp, map sensor, lambda sensor)

7. 3UR-FE Coils (Direct Fire 6 channel ignition) ($900)

Some other small labor stuff here and there as well, including the 6-1 header installation, electronic mid muffler, cold air intake, etc.

How have those Injector Dynamics injectors and the fuel pump been holding up, over how many miles?

Injector dynamics injectors still holding up great.

The Walbro fuel pumps burned out a month ago they started whining intermittently (no flow when the whine happens) and not being consistent.

So replaced both with new ones.

Hmmm, not the first time I've read that on the pumps...
