Living in my house 45 years…. We insisted on at least 5 acres and a quiet setting When we moved here from Vermont. Remember this is NJ and a proctologists dream (as they say) population is the most of any state without wide open land spaces Unless you’re way south. In 1975 we found a place on 7 acres in the middle of the woods on a dirt road and surrounded by several hundred wooded acres.

the area has grown multiples of times and a 6 lane state roadway is 1 mile as the crow flies through the woods. The 54 acres 1000 feet away was for sale in 1977 for $48,000 and the 10 acres next to me came up for sale in the late ‘80s for $40,000. building this isolation zone is my dream but I never had the extra cash to support those plans. I was never one to be mowing the lawn and waving to my neighbor…I could , but prefer no to.

having lived here exactly as we’d planned on … and in a rural zone …I still wait for the other shoe to drop as growth still moves faster than I can keep up with. I am finally retiring next spring…I’ll be 71. This is a motivator for us moving…. This development is not stopping anytime soon. The biggest fault in moving is the new polebarn…our age and no family elsewhere when the inevitable happens for either of us.

saddly, things do not stay the same and change is inevitable…. I am still pulling for you Michael. Since it seems like a coin toss, 50/50 here or there….I wish you my best optimistic luck

Michael,
Very sorry to hear about the by-pass construction. A very Similar issue drove us out of Auburn 17 years ago. Nothing we could do but wait it out and sell before the state came along and gave us what they consider fair market value for our property. Hoping for the best with your situation.

Shortly after I moved to my old place I found out I was on a proposed bypass around Auburn. Now almost 30 years later it still hasn't been built and likely won't (at least where originally conceived) given new construction/land values. Hopefully it's just a pie in the sky Huntsville 2030/40/etc plan like most cities have that don't materialize. But given the growth in Huntsville you're probably not going to be so lucky. I'm sure you've thought about it but if not, and you're convinced it's going to happen, you might consider selling sooner rather than later to maximize what you can sell for. Or maybe that doesn't matter given the skyrocketing property values in that area.

Hate to hear it, good luck.

Thank you Ben.

Dang....most never figure this out, but you truly never own anything

hope it works out!
Thanks Oneman. I already understood this principle. I live with open hands, meaning I don’t hold onto many things. I am merely a caretaker for awhile.

Thanks @Waorani Huntsville is moving this project along pretty quickly, at least for a municipality. I will have more solid data by the end of the year. Plus I have a bit more research to do.

Sunday I introduced the newest member of the gang to the rest of the crew. She even got to ride the lift. Saturday I listed the 68’ on Craigslist. 🥺

Now for the not so good news. I learned this week that, in the not too distant future (maybe 5 years max) I will have an overpass built behind my property, that may or may not consume my shop. There is much to be discovered and discussed. I’m really not sure what to make of this situation. If the shop stays or goes, I don’t want to live next to an overpass.

No good deed goes unpunished.

I started a new project in the shop this weekend. I’m trying to use up some leftover materials. Ever since I built the wooden wall for the office/mezzanine, I have wanted to build a small roof section to breakup the straight flat wall. Yesterday I started it and today I finished the frame work. Next I will apply the copper metal for the roof. The end of it will get either red or blue metal. The 👸🏻 thinks it should be red but I am leaning towards blue (leftover exterior metal). Any opinions on the subject fellas?

So my new friend, I am guessing you enjoy controversy with people…your comment seems abundantly clear to me… WIFE IS THINKING RED ! I say…
Go with red, praise her amazing powers of design and reap the benefits of peace and harmony. Additional benefits may follow this strategy.

RED it is…( ;) )

Al, my friend, seldom does she get her way 😌 I was merely seeking her opinion, not her desire. She goes to the shop so seldom it will be Christmas before she knows what color I actually decide to use anyway.

I made a little more progress this evening. I hung all of the tin that was laying in the shop floor. The rest is out back under the carport, in the dark cold rain.

@Michael B …I am with my wife 48 years and married 45 in a few months. I must be a little less focused because it to me 30 years to realize I do need to let her know how important and interesting her decisions are in getting things done and how important her opinions are…AND. despite all of that, I’m still wrong.

so, I do what I need to get done and tell her how influential she has been in order to create a positive view in her eyes

in the long run, I still do what I needed to do and it gets done my way…..I guess it’s reverse psychology..😇

My guess is she doesn’t see your posts on here.🤔

It will reverse your reverse psychology.😉

This evening I had a little time after work to install some more copper tin. I finished the roof section. Now it’s time for the end cap. 👸🏻Leaves for Va Saturday morning, perfect timing. 🤓

I finished the roofing project today. We will see how long it takes one of my cats to climb onto the roof on that right hand corner, from the mezzanine.

The only other blue I see is the airline. I don't think the blue fits in very well unless you're planning other blue items.

The blue, tan and copper are all of the colors on the outside of the building.
