So I went to the Miramar Airshow on Saturday.

I took over 600 shots!

F22 Raptor
You can see the clouds blurred by the jet wash, and vapor forming above the wings. This was maybe 1/2 second after the start of a 9G turn.

Three More from the F22 Raptor 9G turn.

These shots are not cropped and were taken with a fixed focal length lens. So you can see that he didn’t get that much smaller in the shot as he turned. That should give you some idea as to how tight that turn was.
The other clue is to look at the amount of vapor forming above the wings. More vapor = tighter turn.

The reason they look blurry is due to the jet wash. If you look at the top most wing tip in each shot, you’ll see it’s in focus.

One of the solo Blue Angels
This was about midway through a very hard turn. They didn’t say how many G’s but it must have been up there.

Nice shots!

They were flying practice runs over our office building last Thurs - Friday. It was a nice distraction from work.

I went to meet some of the Blue Angels the friday morning, with the kids I work for. Their team is comprised of more than just the pilots, and there are I think 12 women on the team, I was impressed with the individuals personal accounts of how they reached their goal to be on the team.

VERY IMPRESSIVE PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS!!!

I was on the F-22 Demonstration team a couple years ago (very first F-22 Demo Crew) when Lt Col "Max" Moga was the pilot. I used to work as an avionics tech on those at Langley AFB, but got moved out here for Lockheed's new fighter. DAMN GOOD TIMES!! A true highlight of my career. I had a ball traveling to the Air Shows, but being on the performer end ruined going to airshows as a general spectator for me. Getting the V.I.P treatment spoiled me good. Maj "Zeke" Skalicky is doing an equally impressive job showing that piece of machinery to the public now. Those are some super pics you have there. Looks like the weather was just right for pulling some killer vapor. I wouldn't call the blur "Jet Wash", that is just air turbulance, what you have is an intense heat plume from 70,000 + thrust in full afterburner.

What I find really impressive about the Blue Angels is the pilots do not wear G-Suits. Friggin nuts!

I live right next to Miramar, so I pretty much saw the whole show (all three days) from my back yard.

I saw on TV once a show where people were training to handle the G's, and they would pass out if you know what I mean..
