My rolling frame came with new monte carlo calipers and JTO brackets. I had hoped to just plumb them up and go. Looking at the negative camber and the slimy knuckles made me open them up to see what was in there. PO had bolted up the new stuff to axle bearings, knuckle bearings, inner axle seal and knuckle seals that went south about twenty years ago. The brakes go in the for-sale pile and I'll be drawing out of the minitruck parts again if I have to rebuild a front end. :o

Jim, does the bracket from Georg bolt to the holes left from the stock bracket? Power steering, disc brakes, trimmed the rockers. I don't know if watch this anymore. If I do decide to watch this thread what is the plan for your steering column.:hhmm:

Strictly bolt on. Grind off the rivet heads, knock in the rivets and bolt on the pedestal. All the hardware is included. Only tricky part was lining up the box with where the column would be.

I've got a minitruck tilt wheel with all the switches in it..............or I may use a '73 column. we'll see.

good call on the brakes jim, i can't stand the front disc bolt-on kits. it's amazing how many people will actually use these when there's an affordable oem solution ( that certainly had more hours of engineering and testing than the aftermarket counterpart ).

looking forward to watching the progress on this one. very cool build! i think even fc would like this one, putting a sawzall to a 25 tub. LOL:lol:

Does is not come with the holes for steering box drilled? I would think the location would be the same for all mini power box with a post 72 steering column. Now that I have a FJ40 power steering box I want to see if the 8/80 to 8/82 two piece steering column from a none power steering cruiser will fit with with power steering. SOR doesn't show a difference between the two only for the 83-84 FJ40. But they also don't show a differnce for the 79-80 FJ40:meh:

X2 on the using OEM disc brakes over some kit.

You guys keep it up, I'll end up having to pay someone to take that JTO brake setup off my hands. :p

The bracket is through drilled for bolts, not drilled and tapped like the cast factory pedestal. So the combined clearances of the box and mount holes allow some "adjustment".

Other than that the mail room guy spent a few hours stepping around 133# of steel until I moved it for him today.

Pictures of the minitruck donor for your entertainment, at arrival and upon leaving last month. (thoroughly humiliated with an Easter Bunny painted on the door). I sold the M/T balloons .................. so no worries there. :flamingo:

:hhmm:Are you planning on using the one air horn?

Ahhhhhh - Now I know what a minitruck is.... It a "ute"! (Aussie vernacular for utility).

We didn't have the Hilux moniker in the states, so it was just a Toyota truck, pickup, or minitruck (mini as compared to the Fords, Dodges, & Chevies of the day). HTH

I do believe that for a short while after the Stout we did get the Hilux branded truck here in the US. If I remember correctly it had the same turn signals (rectangler) on top of the fenders that were used on the Land Cruisers at that time. By the time the 4X4 toyota was imported in 1979 the Hilux brand was gone.

Not to hijack a rebuild thread but to give you an idea on the Hilux in Aust - this month it was the highest selling vehicle in the country. That includes small cars, passenger cars everything. Mainly the dual cab version going to the mining industry.

Toyota's ute snapping at Commodore's heels

Can't sneak anything past you guys, but the answer is yes. Meanwhile it's been entertaining the neighbors on the end of an airgun. :p

I started calling the mini a hilux and folks were looking at me strange.

Hi I love the tennis cap on the mini truck . That sunviser thing above wsindscreen. (thats what we call tem down here. Cheers Fred

why would yo put one of those visor things on??? I have a hard enough time seeing the light in my lv I have to basically stick my head down in the passenger seat to look up. granted my lv has a built in cap but nothing like that . since the lv has suck a thick steel roof and I have the 'visor' effect I have to pull my easy pass off the wind sheild and hold it out the window and above the roof when goin though the gates to get it to register. so much for ez.
Jason

i have a steel "visor" for my troopie. hard to find over here.....

Well, no tennis cap, sonnenschute or visor on this rig. :) I'm digging that air horn on the fender though Peter. :grinpimp:

Not much done this weekend. Bolted up the reversible PTO, just to see if it would fit and interfere with the floor. Tight fit, no idea what I'll do with the exhaust now, but that's much later. :wrench:

Last picture for the night, maybe I'll get something done during the week. Yes, that is a 1/2" of body filler on there, no wonder this tub seemed heavy when we were lifting it.
