I've decided this is really more truck than I need and it's definitely more than my wife wants to drive. I imported this truck from Japan and spent many hours looking for one of this quality. A genuine 129, 684 Kms on this truck (I've put about 1400 Kms on it), as is obvious from the lack of wear on the all the places that don't lie: steering wheel, shift lever knob, door handles etc. Truck has passed the BC provincial inspection and is registered and insured in my name. Needless to say, I think, there are no liens or liabilities against the truck. It has never been in any accidents and the original paint is in excellent condition. A nice bull bar by East Coast Bullbars in OZ and a nice roofrack out of Japan, I assume. I'm including an aircraft cargo net that will hold your gear onto the roof rack nicely. The engine and drivetrain are flawless IMO, although the aftermarket steering damper springs are getting a bit rusty I see. The truck has about 4" of lift, which gives nice visibility, but isn't really necessary. The 1HZ engine I can't praise enough; the truck idles along at 80Kmh and 1400rpm. Engine never gets above 2000 rpm unless you want to break 100Kmh. I run Chevron Dello 15-40 and a Toyota 2 stage filter. I got just over 600Kms from a tank of fuel.

The wheels are showing some oxidization - soda blasting is the best fix for this, but I haven't found a 12pt socket to take all the SS decorative bolts out first... Yokoham Geolanders with 80%+ tread left. Batteries look to have been new not long before I got the truck. One door ding on the driver's door from some jerk who I didn't catch unfortunately...

I'm really of two minds about selling this truck because I doubt I'll find another smaller cruiser with genuine low mileage before this importing window gets closed. Time will tell I guess.

I'd love to help you get this into the USA, but no, I can't drive it across the border for you. If you are a US citizen, and particularly if you are a WA resident, you can probably do so yourself, several have already. Registration and insurance depends on what state you live in. Otherwise, make friends with somebody from Rhode Island is my advice!

No hijack at all, thanks for the info. Where are meetings held?

Thanks for the kind words on the truck. You'll notice I parked it as close to the highway as possible!:D

Hi, we're still working out meeting space, so far, it is at members' homes, so I don't want to post the details on the www. PM or email me and I'll forward them to you. Or, better yet, join our members (and prospective members) only Yahoo Group to get all the meeting and trail invites. Send me your email and I'll forward on a group "invite".

Woody graciously created a VI Cruisers forum on mud too. Thanks Woody!

are you people wierd? this is what all adds should look like. details details details. if its too much time to read, youre clearly a tirekicker.

I was referring to the linked article. But yah, I am weird :)

Open to reasonable offers, I've got to move my 23' boat onto the driveway soon.

I happened to drive by this Cruiser yesterday morning, and seeing someone working in the shop behind, I just had to stop to take a peek.

This Cruiser appears to be in great condition; it started right up and sounded wonderful. Priced fair for a sharp looking Cruiser.

g'luck, -Steve

Thanks for stopping Steve, and the kind words.

First 16,900 CAN takes it.

If it doesn't go for that, then $1750. will buy a used mine truck 5 speed and I can get the rest of the parts out of Japan to convert it and we'll go back over $20K. Well over.

dude, don't go used mine truck tranny, you can get a H55F new that will bolt up to that engine.
interesting FACT, the mines here HATE the H151 tranny. i was just at ENS on the weekend chatting with David and Brian about the mine trucks pros and cons. they had to rebuild 10 H55F in all the years they sold that engine tranny combo and they are into their hundreds now with the H151, if you are going manual swap then get the tougher, smoother shifting H55F...
cheers

I agree with wayne on that one, the H55F is the better tranny. Wayne, I wonder if the different exhaust manifold set up on the newer 1hz's makes much of a difference? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the tip on the tranny.

Costs and sources?

I'm perfectly happy with the auto, but I like standard too and since most of the cruiser market seems to have 'auto trans-phobia' I guess I might as well go with whatever adds the most value to the truck, especially if I end up keeping it.

Louis,
i have not driven a newer unit much so i can not say for sure. i drove Mike's around the block but never noticed any "WOW" factor...
cheers

i have a used H55F tranny sitting here complete with bell housing if you want it or contact Mark at ENS industrial for a new one...
$1250 for a used H151 seems a bit steep in my books...
for double that i will sell you a 1HZ complete with H55F in "as is" shape
cheers

current mine trucks use the R series transmissions, NOT the larger 80 series style H series.

they are all R15X's in ENS trucks.

last I checked with Mark Koback (ENS industrial parts) the HZJ H55 was $6,500 CDN which is much higher than US issue F/2H H55's ($1,600-$1,800) which need a $250 (US) HZ input shaft

So what's the differnce between the two H55s? Bell housings & input shafts?

rob-

H55's have a cast iron main case like the FJ40/FJ60/BJ60 4 speeds (the H42, H41).
used in mine trucks to 1999, with brief 1990-1994? replacement with R14X 4 speed behind the PZ engine.

R series are aluminum split 1/2 cases with the shifter in a rear extension housing (aka the 4runner transmission with cousins in supras and other toyota trucks in 4 speed- the R14X and 5 speed R15X versions.

H series are pretty large split 1/2 cases with shifter into main unit (no north american parts). Dave Tay has some photos somewhere on mud of his- G&S might have a photo or two. Bionic transmissions, but few if any parts supplied to us.

i will double check my info tomorrow and see, i could easily be wrong.

$6500 ?!? WOW! that is quite a markup...

cheers

Just to clarify, you (or the mines) are meaning the R14* and R15* transmissions...correct?

No pics on the website, but we do have an H series on the floor.

ooops, you boys are right, my mistake. it is the R151 behind the mine truck 1HZ...
any which way, the 151 behind the mine HZ are not standing up like the H55 so don't waste your money...
