Man, this thing has been amazing. I thought i was going to need a backup car incase I have to keep fiddling with it, but its been a trooper. Not a single drop of leak. Always starts and pulls hard. Anyone regret the swap?

Absolutely not - my 60 has been my DD since I finished the swap a little over a year ago. Over 14k miles later and it hasn't given me an ounce of trouble, always started no matter how cold it is, gives me the capability to go on the freeway, off-roading it's got plenty of power.

I think it is singlehandedly the best modification I've ever done to a vehicle.

It’s great, between the v8 and the new seats, I prefer it to driving my F150
What seats did you install? I put in Scheel-Mann. I had a very reputable, well-known restorer of 60 series trucks tell me it wasn’t worth it. It was. To me at least. Total game changer in comfort. Besides the new V8 it was the best addition other than my AMP steps. THOSE are the best!

E90 BMW seats, really comfortable for me, heaters rock too

2011 swap. Approaching 100k miles . Daily driven for years ( now retired from DD mostly)

zero leaks, zero issues.

Only regret is not doing a manual.
In hindsight is would’ve been “cool” to go with a Toyota V8 .. but back then it was pretty uncharted territory for a shade tree DIYer hack like myself

My post swap mileage is pretty low compared to some of you, at around 2500 due to various other projects on the car that's have kept it off of the highway and racking up miles. I finally got my overdrive gears installed so I can cruise at highway speeds without revving to the moon.

I've got a gen3 LQ4 and h55. It drives great. I redid most of the seals etc while it was on the stand and the only issue I've had so far was a thermostat gasket leaking (because I didn't install it) and the standard gen3 knock sensor issues. I got that sorted and am in the process of adding in a charcoal canister/ tank vent valve. I also bought HP tuners to fiddle with some mapping eventually.

All of that being said, it's so nice to be able to hop in and start the car no matter how cold it is. It blips to life with no effort. Let it warm up for like 3 minutes while I get all of my junk for the day and it's good to go, hop on the highway and get up to 80 if I have to without even thinking twice.

Regrets? Only that I didn't buy an LS3 or something cooler like an LSA. But the joy of this platform, is now that I've got it in and working, I can just find a better motor and slap it in with minimal drama.

Thinking of an LS3 swap soon. Glad folks have never looked back on the decision. The 3fe is getting tired and hills......... forget about it.

Anyone have any second thoughts about using an H55 behind the LS? I'm still debating the transmission choice between that and tremec

Glad to hear all the positive feedback on this thread. Getting my 1985 done in next few weeks.

It will be a rebuilt turnkey LM7 connected to the H55. I have been looking forward to this for many years now.

Less adapters the better off you are - first rule of LS swaps is pick your trans - then motor - then adapters that will work

H55’s go very swell with the LS swaps

If you can find it a ranger torque splitter Infront of an h42 is solid as well

Nv4500?

Go drive a T56 Camaro and if you like the way that shifts then you will like the Tr4050.

Your advice from the other thread to keep the H55 is making me lean that way. I already have the H55 installed + the Marks adaptor. I don't dislike the H55 at all, but my concern is it's 20(ish) year longevity with 400hp. I guess if that's a problem someday, I'll still have the tremec option.

Drive something with the Tremec before you make a decision. I have one in my 62, I like it, but it’s definitely not for everyone
