I am going to remove my radiator and replace it with a new one after the old had an obvious blow out. I pulled over, let it cool, and filled with water before nursing it home to watch the outpouring continue. My question is: Do I need to block the inlet and outlet to the motor or any other lines so that no debris or critters get in there? It may take me a couple of days around work to complete this swap and am trying hard to keep my motor pure. I don't have A/C if that helps. Also, the removal process appears straight forward but any seasoned tips are welcome too.

Thank you!

If it makes you feel better use couple of old rags to plug the inlet and outlet.

But I agree with @brian don't do anything.

just don't forget to remove them before re-assembly.

I'm gonna run contrary to the crowd and tell you to plan on changing your thermostat. The only thing worse than doing the job is doing it over because your t-stat stuck from being in the air.

Same thought as ^ only for a different reason. The coolant is already drained so now is a perfect time to make sure anything that is marginal like hoses cap etc... should be inspected and replaced, including the thermostat.
