I'm wondering if someone can point me to a link where there's a good tutorial on replacing worn rear drum brake on 60s? I'm comfortable with the front pads but not so with the rear drums. Braking is freakishly scary at best and am refreshing the system with pads, drums, new fluid, and brake bleed.

Get a FSM for your rig ... and / or see this link :

Take a couple of pics as you go so you get all the springs and other bits in the correct way. Its quite easy

Get the PDF of the fsm and buy the proper tools for drums from harbor freight.

You'll be fine. I did it without any of the above and I did it in two days going very slowly.

Both of these.. FSMs are in my sig line. Also note that the parts are side specific, especially the adjusters. Easiest way to get the drum off is to release the tension through the adjustment slot as much as you possibly can. If you have never serviced them before or don't know if they have been serviced recently then you will have to do the bolt method to pop the drum off. Still release all tension in the adjust for the shoes. From there you will need a rather long M8 x 1.25 bolt ( I think that is the pitch and size). There is a threaded hole in the face of the drum that you can screw the bolt into and keep screwing. Basically it presses against the face of the axle flange (if that's what it is called) that the studs are mounted too and presses the drum off. Wear ear protection and face protection when doing.

one great tip is that you only work on one side at the time, so in case you get lost on something you can go to the other side to see whats going on. Don't tear down both drums at the same time, do one at the time and fully complete that side before starting on the other side.

Having the other side to reference is amazing.

I was installing the parking brake lever completely wrong and it was binding. I almost installed it cocked out until I realized I could just pull the drum off the other side. Dammit.
