The solid-state switches cost less than the isolators. The dual leg isolators cost more than the basic isolators. The OR'ing switches are more costly than the basic switches and the isolators. Engineering, materials, assembly, testing, packaging, warranty, insurance, support, R&D for future products, marketing, etc.... If we could sell it for $10 and make money, we would.
I don't think, necessarily, that it is a matter of how much they cost...it is the moving target, that you have provided for us, of what they will cost. If you don't know then maybe you should simply state they will be "competitevly priced" and leave it at that until you have a firm amount. Going on and on about what they might cost without factual information leaves yourself wide-open for lessened creditability.
Wow....I'm not sure where to begin. I had no idea I had the capacity to piss so many people off. I think I'll start with criticism of other products:
Scott
Wow Scott, seems to me that you should have opened with a sincere apology to everyone here that has a serious interest in your product. We're all potential customers, and I would be trying keep customers happy, even if your product isn't out yet. No use cutting down the competion or making excuses. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
You might consider not posting here until you have a product, just bow out, and say you'll be back with a product and firm pricing with firm delivery. . . . . . . . . .
Isn't there a moderator that can just stop this endless dweeble until Scott emails you with a notice that products are availible with pricing and shipped immediatlely with receipt of payment?? This threads been going forever, and still getting nowhere!!!
Seriously. Although Scott and his company might have some credability with their past product performance and customer service record. Putting down competitors, missing deadlines and moving price targets in a public forum put them in the same camp as vaporware. If I were Scott, I would pipe down until the product with a firm pricing is actually ready for shipment.
Well lets try and take into account that this thread wasn't originally started about mobi-arc. It was started as an honest question by Turbo on the pos/neg aspects of running a winch w/ or w/o dual batteries.
Honestly I can only speak from experience. I have a stock battery in my 80 and a 9000 warn xd and it works fine. I have never used up my battery power winching and I was winching at one point 4 trucks up lower two (the hardest trail) in Tellico right after one another. I barely had to rev my engine at all. So really I think you only need one battery. A yellow top should do the trick.

Well there you go Turbo all your questions answered in one response. Guess that settles the debate and alot of us have second batteries we will be able to sell soon.
I have left my Engel fridge/freezer which sits behind the passenger seat in my Tacoma Xtra cab . Left it on for four solid days in an airport parking lot -with 70-80 degree temps. And still the yellow top battery had plenty of juice to start the truck. I have not had to use the second battery even when winching...
I would imagine the second battery decision is a little like the winch, recovery gear decision...better to have it and not need it than the other way around...
I agree with that- I would not feel comfortable leaving the engel on 24/7 or winching trees or trucks on the trail without the second battery. Then there is the big sound system I blast when I can
I at this point am not going to dignify this with a verbal tirade as I have discovered it would fall upon deaf ears. I can only wish you all the best in your college endeavors as I'm sure your one and only whitty reparte will take you quite far young man.
Nice. Private school education? Thought so.
I won't even get into the use of grammar...or rather the lack there of.
Back to the thread topic...
I think dual batteries would be a requirement for anyone planning on installing a winch. If not immediately upon installation of the winch, then not too long after. I, for one, would feel much more secure with a backup battery.
