After installing the Koito headlamps, I noticed that the high beam switch in the turn signal is backwards. To turn on the high beams, I have to push the turn signal arm forward, rather than the standard to pull it backwards. Anyone know the easiest way to fix this? Is there a plug that I can just flip? Or do I cut and swap the wires somewhere down line? TIA!

I think normal too but don't use them a lot, push forward and it stays or you can pull it back just to flash them
I have no "flash to pass" on my 1974 FJ40.

FJ40...flash to pass...ha ha

I don't believe the flash was installed until '79 or '81 (pretty certain it was '81). From '73-'78 or '80 it was only flip forward for high beam, then pull back for low beam. Pull to flash was more recent. '72 and older had the high beam selector on the floor like American cars of the time: again, with no flash.

Fyi, my 79 is as you described. Push forward for high beam and pop back to flash high. And the flash function works with or without the headlights on.

Thank you. I couldn't recall whether it happened with the square headlight bezil or the extra digit in the odometer. I tend to thing of improvements on 40 as coming in waves.

Mine did the same with the floor switch but with the Dakota Digital dash the blue high beam indicator was on with low beam. Just switched the wires in the plug. My bigger issue is that when going from high to low about 97% of the time I get the third option: no headlights at all. Lots of fun as I’m stomping on the switch going from high to off about 5 times before the low beam comes back on. I’ve noticed that the oncoming car’s driver applauds my performance by waving their arm out the window and answering back by flashing their lights in support. All while I’m swerving because I can’t see. Really heart warming the support my neighbors give me in my time of shear panic.

Mine has it. November of 1977

if it really bothers you theres two wires you can switch in the plug to the headlight harness.

Problem is if you have the wires reversed the flask feature if you have will go to low beams.

Flash to pass is wishful thinking. I think maybe I have pasted a few rigs over the years. I do like good lights at night to help see the kamikaze deer at distance.

The main reason I used the flash to pass is at night on two lane highways when an oncoming car doesn't dim their bright lights. Mainly with the floor button. I also use when someone passes me to let them know pull back in.

Change was 9/77 with start of the 78 model.

That’s a feature on my 69’ as well.. and then, by the time they come back on you decide that whether they are now bright or dim… there just right!

I think i need to find a later model switch and adapt it to my 75 40.
