Was this an exact fit?? I ordered the Toyota seal, but this seems like a much better way to go for only a couple of dollars more!
Pretty much, fit nicely on the shaft with no slop but had to grind it down a little at the top and bottom to fit better and needed slightly longer bolts, other than that easy ! Its was even cheaper to buy one of these and get it shipped over than to buy a genuine one.

Just replaced mine with the bearing solution..as previously stated the securing ring needs reprofiling to replicate the OEM seal and slightly longer bolts to secure the plate and bearing to the firewall....
Makes me feel better knowing that the shaft now no longer can contact the firewall and is almost blocking elements as well as the rubber dust cover

Thanks to robertk61 for this great option:clap:

Did mine today, 45 mins to fit.

This is what I used (2 weeks to get delivered from the States though !!)

Curious because I am gonna pull the trigger on this one, but how much grinding are we talking about? Also on the bolts how much longer and did you get the bolts at say a home improvement center of some kind? Thanks for your input.

3 minutes grinding (I just clamped the plates together with some vise grips and hit them on my grinder), and bolts 10mm (3/8 inch) longer-too easy. had the bolts at home, standard m8 bolt.

I just replaced mine with Oem. the bearing option above looks great. But I wonder if you will get vibes in the wheel since the Oem was meant to have some Give.

Thank you. Doesn't seem too daunting.

X2 good question:hmm:

I think the purpose of the rag joint is to dampen vibes to the steering wheel more than the firewall seal.

Just back from racking up about 200 miles on the bearing set up...some city, some off road, needless to say not a knock nor anything strange ...no vibes transmitted to the wheel....looks like this will be a winner to me

Anyone care to chime in with their longer-term experiences with either the replacement OEM rubber boot or the bearing option? I just checked mine and it's completely toast. Thanks in advance!
