You always find that the littlest jobs are always the hardest. :bang:

So how many people have replaced this little fxxxer

It's the mechanism to make the horn work, mine hasn't been working since I bought the truck, saw it on eBay and thought easy enough to replace :bang:

You have to pull the multifunction switch off and then there's this little circlip what a pain in the arse to get that on :D

Hmmm mine has pretty much just stopped working, it was working intermittently but I think it's cactus now. I'll have to check it out.

I did this on the FJ62 I sold. Some dental tweezers helped. The excessive swearing didn't!
Took a while but got it done!
Thanks Micah, it's good to know someone else shared the same pain

I've been having a few voltage starting issues lately, when the truck is running is running everything is good, good voltage everything working correctly, but when I leave it overnight, the voltage drops and things like the central locking etc. don't work properly.

So to combat this, (it's a work in progress thing) I have wired up a wire from the positive on the alternator direct to the battery and also fitted another earth lead from the battery to the engine.

Time will tell if it fixes it, but we will certainly know in the morning.

Try disconnecting the battery over night. If it all works when you reconnect it in the morning you have a vampire or two if it still shows the same symptoms then it's the battery on the way out.
9 times from 10 it's the battery.

Well I just drove home after leaving the vehicle sitting for 8 hours and the alternator is showing around 8 volts the truck started straight away, the central locking worked correctly, I'll measured the voltage in the morning and see where that goes.

Also I do have an aftermarket alternator, it was in there when I purchased the vehicle, so maybe that might be playing up.

Ok went out this morning to do all the tests and the results are as follows

Checked main starter battery = 12.56 volts
Started engine = battery dropped to 11.6 volts started and went back to 12.1 volts
Vehicle idled for 1 minute at 12.5 volts then went straight up to 13.58 volts and isolator kicked in charging second battery.
Both batteries then remained at 14.25 volts

So things I now know - main starting battery is good
There is minimal drop over night - clock and flashing alarm

Things I don't know
Alternator - is it normal to take a minute before it starts charging ?

Also worked out why my central locking was playing up, a bad earth

Hmmm I wouldn't be too concerned about the alternator if it is charging at 13.8 and I don't think the brief moment of low charging is of concern either.
I've never had much success with alarms not pilfering voltage overnight, perhaps try to isolate the alarm from the battery over night and see if that is a suspect.
Alternatively you could keep the bonnet open and have everything as it normally would be overnight and place a good DC tong meter over the positive terminal to see if something is pilfering some substantial voltage (>50mA). If it is then try and narrow is done to a positive leg of your aux accessories like alarms, turbo timer etc.

Hey Crick

Thanks mate, yeah I think I'll just leave it as is for a while and see if anything changes, I'm off to Bali in a week for 3 weeks, so I'll see how it goes sitting for 3 weeks

Hey fellow Aussies

Does anyone know where you can purchase add a leaf springs,

I've watched a couple of videos and want to do it to the front but can't seem to find anywhere in Aus to buy them

Thanks Spudman

I read this from go to whoa last night... that's a big transformation! And in Hall's CReek of all places? Must be bloody hot working on that car!
Thanks Andrew

It's a real barstard of a heat in summer and a prick in winter, worst of all I get the afternoon sun in my driveway, so everything has to be finished early, a lot of blood sweat and tears

Decided to go the other yesterday and purchased new heavy duty front springs, cost me $300
