A pretty cool birthday present from my parents just arrived!

I got the plastic valve covers sanded, cleaned, prepped with grease and wax remover, sprayed with plastic adhesion promoter, and then sprayed with VHT high temp plastic paint. I also got the upper plenum on and ready to put on the throttle body. Still waiting on all of the oil cooler gaskets, and need to re-work the electrical connections (fusible link, big 4) and then I will be ready to mate the engine and transmission/transfer case.

Looks excellent !
Now just add some red to the Toyota emblem 😎

I got the emblem on the plastic valve cover painted tonight. I blame you for the extra work @Broski but it is going to look great. You were right…. I also finally have brakes again. The motive pressure bleeder is amazing. I knew with replacing the entire brake system, i might have a few spots not tight and I was right. I had 3 leaks when I added pressure to the system. Once I got everything tightened up, it was smooth sailing after that. It also helps that I removed the ABS and LSPV which made it even easier.

That reservoir adapter has more snazz than mine. Where'd you get it?

I needed to address the electrical on this truck before I got the engine back in the truck. It was in rough shape. The PO looks to have made his own fusible link and had filled the grey plastic connector with dielectric grease and used a spade connector to make the connection. New fusible link, new junction box, new battery terminals, new starter wire and new ground wire from battery to the engine block. I have the rest of the ground cables new and ready to go in once the engine is back in. Not much left to do before I am ready to put the engine and transmission back in. I broke one of the bolts that holds the transmission support when I was taking it out, so I need to extract that from the frame. I also need to get the nuts off that holds the O2 sensors on so I can replace them while I have some extra room without the transmission in the way. I also need to get the carpet back in, which is probably not necessary before the transmission is back in place. I also need to get the wheels and tires back on and get it back on its feet so I can torque all of the suspension parts, since everything was replaced. Also waiting on Red Head to get my steering box back to me so I can steer this baby out of the garage to have room for the engine hoist to get the engine and transmission back in. There may be a few other odds and ends, but it’s getting closer to having a new heart beating in its chest!

Also does anyone know if it is a big deal to not have the little plastic cover on the end of the wire from the battery to the starter? The big wire kit I bought off someone here on the board does not allow for the plastic cover to go on this wire.

I got it on amazon and it worked flawlessly. I just had to trim the down tube to fit, it was too long for the reservoir on the new MC. I did have to change the quick connect barb on the cap to make the quick connect work, but I had a bunch of them laying around.

Got a lot done today but did not get pictures of everything. I extracted the bolt I broke off in the frame when I was removing the transmission cross member 6-7 months ago. I also removed the air box and got it all cleaned up. While the air box was out, I was able to finish getting the engine bay cleaned up and looking better. I also got the heater exchange valve installed along with the LCP rear heater delete hose. Then I crawled up under the truck and I installed the hex drain and fill bolts in both axles. While I was under there, I removed the brake line that is no longer used running down the drivers side frame from where I removed the ABS and LSPV. The I decided while I was under there I would wipe down and verify the frame was free from rust. Very happy with how nice the frame is holding up, no rust any where at least from the front to the rear axle. I also installed the new OEM oil filler cap.

I keep saying it was another big day, but I am going to say it again. It was another big day in the garage! I tarted small by replacing the control plate on the shifter and replaced the bulb with the little green condom. Then I put the air box and the AFM back together with a new gasket after cleaning it all up. Next, I decided I needed to do some fun stuff since I am waiting on parts to finish the engine before it goes back in. I wiped the entire inside of the truck down to get all the dust and anything else that had collected while I was working, and then got the carpet back in. I did not feel like stopping yet, so I jumped in into the pile of stuff that @Delta VS sent 3-4 months ago. I was able to get the ceiling storage rack, bulkhead, and the Quarter Panel Mount installed. Then I threw in the 4x4 Labs 3rd row Cargo Rack, and finally put in the @Bellfab Interior Tire Carrier. I must say even though it does not have an engine or transmission in it, it is starting to feeling like a Land Cruiser again! My vision is starting to come together thanks to a ton of help from people on here and great vendors that support our 80’s!

A friend came over tonight and we kicked into hyper drive. We got the engine and transmission mated together and the transmission wiring harness installed. Also put the tires back on so we can roll it out of the garage some so we can get the cherry picker in position. Last we got the front clip uninstalled so we we can try and get the power train in the truck tomorrow night!

In the chaos of have 3 people help me get the engine in, we forgot to connect the “pesky heater hose”. I was planning on running a hose from the PHH location to the heater exchange valve on the fire wall. It was not fun or easy but I got it taken care of along with the engine harness attached to the firewall. Next, I got the transmission cross member buttoned up. My helpers only loosely put two bolts on each side and did not put the nuts on the bottom side of the transmission mount. I also got a few of the coolant hoses on the passengers side connected. Last, I got the AC compressor mounted back to the engine so it was not loose and flopping around in the engine bay. I really want to keep rolling on this, but I have to pack up and head out of town for work until Sunday…
