HIR Bulbs

Since nobody bothers to read the faq, I will post a few comments.

1) 100watt 9005 bulbs do not equal 100watt H1, H3, or 80/100 H4 bulbs. I ran Hella and Osram German H1, H3, and H4 bulbs for years without a problem. This was why I originally bought the 80 watt 9006 and 100 watt 9005 Hella's from Rallylights.com (Susquena). I thought the first 4 bulbs that blew were a freak accident, but then found out it wasn't. That was what led to my search for something better. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GERMAN MADE 9005 AND 9006 HIGH WATT BULBS, BECAUSE THEY ARE ONLY USED IN THE US. COMPARING GERMAN AND KOREAN HELLA BULBS IS LIKE COMPARING A LEXUS TO A YUGO.

2) Susquena has been talking about changing 9006 and 9005 vendors for 2+ years. The problem is that there is no company that makes better high watt bulbs.

3) 100 watt 9005 bulbs are not brighter than a 9011 HIR. Both put out approximately 2400 lumens.

4) HIR bulbs use the stock wattage, put out the same heat as the stock bulbs, and do not require upgrades to the wiring harness (but an upgrade will supply more light). They are easier on your electrical system and are not a fire hazard which the 9005 and 9006 bulbs are.

5) There was a wonderful two part article in the BMWCCA magazine where the author went through and tested about 10 different 9005 and 9006 bulbs. The HIR's worked the best short of changing to Euro lamps and housings.

But then what do I know. I am just another idiot on the internet.

HOLD THE PHONE ON THAT ORDER!!! GROUP RATE COMING UP.
I've been talking with the ebay guy and he's willing to do a group buy. Let me iron out the details and I'll post back soon.

Every time I drive US 6 back from Moab I think about upgrading my headlights...and last weekend wasn't an exception. The Slee Harness makes a huge difference, but I want more...especially in the lows.

Stay tuned.

Good thing I ordered some before they run out. :-)))
Cheers,
Sean

Yeah, i just read that! Never seen it before! Good info!

Thanks

Perfect timing Safado. Was going to order tomorrow morning. By the way the 80 is now Slee harnessed:) I'll see if I notice a difference from just HIR stock wiring to the HIR Slee wiring and post.

Well I just had the opportunity to try the lights with the new Slee harness. I hope this isn't just a placebo effect but I swear the HIRs are even brighter! Can't wait to get the HIR highs now. Keep us posted on that group buy Safado. Great job on the harness Christo and the directions for install were VERY easy to follow. Definitely a 1 banana job.

Here's the group buy if you didn't already see it.

Nice work setting up a group buy Safado!

I am wondering why the guy jacked up shippping costs though between the group buy and his ebay sales?

Umm, playind Devils Advocate here:

His group buy offers the bulbs @ $27 each for 2 bulbs plus $5.25 for shipping for up to 8 bulbs and $25 each if you buy 4 bulbs plus $5.25 shipping for up to 8 bulbs.

His ebay add sells them for $29.95 each plus $4 shipping for up to 8 bulbs.

Ebay Non Discounted Total Price = $33.95
Group Buy Total Price (buying 2 bulbs) = $32.25
Group Buy Total Price (buying 4 bulbs) = $30.25

Total Savings = $1.70 a bulb if you buy 2
Total Savings = $3.70 a bulb if you buy 4

Its still a savings of course but it annoys me when ebay sellers (and others) dont charge actual shipping costs and jack it up!

Sorry for the whining

:D

You're right Mangler that is annoying. Not the cost that bothers me as we still get a deal, just the fact that he thinks he's "slipping one by us". Oh well, guess I'll just have to turn the other cheek:) My order is going in. Thanks Safado, great job on helping us out with this!!!

You can do an actual comparison by disconnecting the Slee socket from the PS and plugging back in the OEM one.

Shine your headlights on your garage door.

The left (driver) side will be with harness power, the right (passenger) will be with OEM power.

NP...hope it helps.

But seriously guys...must we jump the gun on everything and slay the guy for the $1.25? For all we know he factored the shipping loss at $4 into his profits at $29.95. Would you have been happier if they were $26 and $28 with $4 shipping? If I were a betting man I'd bet his Bulb/Box ratio goes up considerably with group buys. I mean cmon...it's 8 bulbs and a box insured for up to $200 anywhere in the US.

End of the day, the price was already better than anywhere else out there...and now it's better. He told me he's offered group buy rates to many other organizations out there and this is how he does it. You either want it or you don't.

Thanks for the idea Shocker, didn't think of that. I'll try it tonight, but I swear they are brighter with the relays, etc. :)

Safado, we don't want to kill him over it or anything, it just seems that you'd lower the price to what you want to sell it at and not touch shipping. No big deal just makes me laugh a bit. Seriously though, appreciate the time and effort you put into the group buy. Thanks.

Good reading on the BMW website. Everybody read and make your own conclusion:D
