It's be a lot of weight cantalievered off the stock rack. I'd make sure the sheet metal is in good shape and keep a close eye on it for deformation. :meh:

Yes, several months ago. It was flimsy, loose, and worst of all, the bolts did not fit the holes in my jack (I thought they were all the same), so I had to bend and pound to get the bolts to where I could pound the jack on them.

If I didn't have to ship it cross country, I would give you mine.

I'd sure want to put locking wires or linch pins through studs that carry the wing nuts, lest you shed the jack while 'wheeling. Everything can and may vibrate loose over time.

For the tight trails here in New England I wouldn't want the jack hanging that far off the back of my truck. That's just asking to get hooked on a tree or rock IMHO. It also puts the jack as the first thing to get hit when backing up - leading to a bent jack. I prefer to keep the jack inside the truck bolted to the cage or seat frames or similar.

@zebrabeefj40, that is a great point. I keep looking for a simple solution, but I think you've got the most practical answer. Thanks, Nick!

Hopefully I'll have some time this winter to figure out a spot on my 40, inside, where I can mount that jack.

Mine sits nicely on the running board.

No, I got the idea here. Do a search of hi-lift jack and you'll see a few. I'll try to find a pic of the plate I made to attach with the windshield screws. Very simple and it has been there for years now. I make sure to keep it clean and lightly lubed.

Mine is a lot like this:

@myquestoyota, cool, I'd love to see what you came up with. I've done lots of searching on the forum and off. Just trying to gather info before I buy or start to make something of my own. Thanks for sharing what you've learned.

Hi-lift jacks are overrated but they do look cool bolted on a rig.
Well, I don't have a ton of off road experience. But, I don't have a winch yet, a bottle jack doesn't work for all applications, and often, I have four people and some dogs in my truck. Hence the interest in exterior mounting of the hi-lift.

Happy to learn from you and your experiences.

With regards to the CCOT version...I bought one a few months ago...it's wobbly, had to wrap pipe on the jack side with some tape...helped modestly but it still wobbles even pushed in all the way with 33x12.5 tires. I think the two holes on each pipe (Jack and Tire Carrier sides) are too large which causes the problem. All in all wouldn't buy it again and would find someone to fab something easily out of 2" square metal and plate. Working on learning welding and that's one of my first projects as I've seen quite a few DIY versions that looked good...if you're set on a rear tire mount. For now it's just an annoyance but there's my review fwiw.
