Hey guys, whatcha think?? Front winch bumper mockup!!

It takes a pretty big panbrake to bend 3/16 and quarter inch plate. A commercial shop would have that, a home shop guy would be welding I imagine.

That is correct. I couldn't find a local shop that was both willing and capable. The shop in question is Alabama. That is why I wanted to do a full-scale mockup to ensure that everything fit as I had imagined.

The side plates are part of the recover hooks and are 3/8". The wings are grade 80 3/16".

Opps, sorry... Come to think of it they do look thicker than 1/4.

I should have realized that as I bruised myself lifting the SOB........

An interesting footnote to the Slee is the winchmout is off-set slightly to the right to clear the Warn 12K. Even with the RH off-set the low profile 8k Warn, which has the motor on the RH side, still fits nicely.

Just talked to the shop and he quoted me $200 to cut and bend up the 3 main pieces for me. This was in line with what I was thinking/hoping for, so the bumper is a go at this point. I need to discuss some further details with him, but hopefully I'll be sending him my design towards the end of this week.

Ary, updates? pictures?

I really like Dan's Stout bumper. Does anyone make a front bumper designed exclusively for a Hawse fairlead?

Arya,
Looks good. I have been mulling over roughly the same. Bending was approx $200 in NC as well. If would specify for the bend on top to be just shy of 90 degrees. That will allow for water to run off rather than sit there and lead to rust. Look forward to see it.

Updates....hmm, yeah, I bought an ARB :D

Was too good of a deal $$ wise, and I really needed some deer protection on the front of the rig. Since this isn't my "hardcore" truck I figured an ARB was good enough, although I may eventually make another bumper and sell the ARB.

FZJ80kidpen, I would have the bumper bent to exactly the shape you want. How often do you park on a perfectly level surface? Also, as soon as you start moving the air flow will blow it dry. :)

Ya know, a nice hidden trailer hitch would look great up front. Then you can mount the winch on a removable plate and use it on the back of the truck too...

Nope. Not with a heavy truck like an 80. Permanently mount the winch. These ain't go-carts.

You don't need something "exclusively" built for a synthetic fairlead... ie. just hack off the front shelf of the ARB etc.

This has to be the fugliest looking homeless person I've ever seen. :flipoff2:

Nice looking team you got there Romer :D

At least they played last week. It's a bummer when you lose in the championship. Even though Plummer imploded, the Offensive line did their nails and the Defense droped 5 easy pics in their hands, it was a good season. Have to feel good about the season, just not the end.

Arya - Did you get the ARB with the winch mount?

The ARB is pretty stout. Did you see the thread were Rachel was driving my rig and a car ran into her and got totaled and not a scratch on the bumper? I think Dan has since replaced his bumper with an ARB.

I thought he went with a slee?

You are probably correct. I saw the bumper all wrapped up and on its way to him last summer. Ben from Slee dropped it off at a club meeting and one of our members arrainged transportation for Dan.

Romer, yeah, I got the ARB w/ the winch mount. Picked it up for $475 and it's damn near brand new looking. The ARB on my old Jeep did $2500 worth of damage to my mom's E320 and didn't get a single scratch(she backed into it in the driveway  ), so I've been sold on ARB's for a while.

Dan has a Slee btw.
