Hey found a free 85 SR5 XTRACAB efi pickup, what do I do with it?

A neighbor wants to give me an 22 REC EFI 85 Toy pickup. SR5 Short bed extra cab.

It was his grandmother's and then his DD for a while. Its in good shape, despite some oxidized blue paint. There is a tiny bit of rust-through on the side of the outer bed wall only, and not a single dent in it, or the bumpers! The engine looks clean and according to the owner it was retired running. The interior has had it. It needs a fuel pump to run. Engine was overhauled as it was a DD some time back. ACTUALLY..... Many engine components look better than my FJ40's.

It is just sitting there........I asked and they said we would like someone to take it who can fix it.

I am thinking this would be a perfect wheeling/hunting truck; throw in a new suspension and tires, get 'er running, & maybe fixed the rust and interior, camo it and voila!

I would love to have one of these! What should I look for when making the final decision? I'd think it's basically whether the engine is decent or not.

Suggestions? Imagine this but 22 years older in appearance........

You just need to decide if you want to give in and spend the kid's inheritance and college funds building it. Once you start...

It's a sickness that I don't want to be cured...

NO kids and none on the way (for now).

Seriously it has less rust on the frame than my Fj40 did when its restoration started. Rip out the interior and get some seats, then Linex the floor. Only thing I could see was the valve gaskets leaked and soiled up the motor. The transfer case was pretty gunked up from all the oil dripping on it, but it shifts smoothly. The owner even has all the records. It's just sitting in a field and it's free for chrissakes! I should grab it right?

Howdy! That's what I have. Great truck. 200.000 on the ticker and still running good. I have 3" body lift and 4" suspension. Runs 35" Goodyear MT's with 5.29s in the diffs. These are getting rare, and value is going up. Last year for solid front axle, first year for fuel injection. Extra cab is really nice. We put electic Supra seats in, and now if fits all drivers, big and small. Get it and keep it, and wheel it!!!! John

Free  I agree with everyone else. You are crazy if you don't take a free toyota in decent condition, especially since you know the people. Easy decision.

Yep, I would be jumping on it faster than fly on caca. 89-93 4runner seats will fit nicely and 17 or 16 inch wheels from a 4runner or Tocama can be had cheaply every now then on craigslist and you get will also help keep the RPM's down hence a better ride.:)

Fuel pump is accessible via the rear floor compartment, correct? Pull up the seat or something?

Yeah no doubt.....wife isn't even bitching about it. Somebody pinch me.

TAKE IT!!! I have an 83, but would love an 85 with the xtra cab. More room and the EFI would be nice. Lucky guy! Best of luck building it up.

Gotta hear back from the dude who has it and he's off hunting. Until then I wait. Should not be long. Stay tuned.

Don't listen to these posers...sounds kind of fishy to me. If I was you...I'd pass on it.

Also, can you PM me the phone number of the owner :grinpimp::flipoff2:;)
