Hey found a free 85 pickup, what do I do with it?

That is what I am thinking, although money ain't the issue and I can park it in one of the barns down at wifey's family farm and wrench on it while visiting the in-laws. Tons of tools and weatherproof roomy workspace...THAT is why I want it, plus I'll get another 4WD 'outta it. Otherwise, it sits on the street since it's my 4th car.

I cant believe you would even consider not getting it. Hell, the second the guy said you can have it, I'd had a chain wrapped around it pulling it home....

Ahhhh. . . . that's beautiful. Now wouldn't it just suck if he changed his mind while he was off hunting? :grinpimp:

Ok got the poop on it from the "seller". He now wants $500 and there's no title. I'm still interested, but no title and now $500? I think it's worth it though, but I'll never be able to register it, etc.

What do you guys think?

Well now that they want money, and it will cost you money to get a title, it comes back down to the old "what's it worth to ya?" If it runs great, and you are willing to go through the title bs then get it. The title should cost all that much money to get, but will take some time and some crappy paperwork (if you guys are anything like Colorado). Assuming it runs well and the frame isn't rusted in half I'd tell them they can have $600 and get me a damn title. If you do get it from them without a title make damn sure you get a GOOD bill of sale, not some chicken scratches on a napkin. It will help you secure a title. But yeah, get it :flipoff2:

Probably will never see a public road. I'm not going to worry about the title, registration, etc. This is for pure wheeling only. If it runs halfway decent I'm taking it next time im down there...

Good things can be had for cheap. . .

Buddy got this truck for 24 beers. Needed engine.

Ended up being SASed, Vortec 4.3, and more.

Before as recovered from the farmer's field:

seriously take it and run. drive it like you stole it then after time if you decide you dont need it sell it. even if you do put money into it. in the end it will be way cheaper than anything else cause the truck was FREE!!!

This is an old thread but someone else brought it back to life so I'll put in my 2 cents.

I think someone is full of BS

I mean come on. Someone wants to give you a cherry version of the most sought after model Toyota Pickups ever made?....and you have to ask us if its a good deal or not? Sorry I don't buy it.

NO kids and none on the way (for now).

Seriously it has less rust on the frame than my Fj40 did when its restoration started. Rip out the interior and get some seats, then Linex the floor. Only thing I could see was the valve gaskets leaked and soiled up the motor. The transfer case was pretty gunked up from all the oil dripping on it, but it shifts smoothly. The owner even has all the records. It's just sitting in a field and it's free for chrissakes! I should grab it right?

Yep, grab it. Easy as hell to fix up. You suck. :flipoff2:

May I recommend that you stay away from Explorer ProComp lift springs?

My only concern is diverting funds from the 40 resto/build.....and I will wheel it at LSLC so it's full steam ahead.
This truck is gonna need a full suspension, wheels/tires, seats, and a thorough going through. The wallet is scared.

I'll post some pics when I trailer it to our property.
