hopefully I will have 1 tons delivered this week. a d70 rear and d60 cheby front. with new arbs and 586 gears. the front has knuckles but no hubs, caliper brackets, spindles. iwill buy new calipers/rotors but if someone has the other stuff and can save me some money on new let me know.

I have never taken a real good look at brackets but i think i will get them from ruf stuff.

planning radius arms (ylinks) front and rear. there is no room for a 4 link in the back of an 80 unless the gas tank is removed or real short arms are used for the uppers.

I am planning on stretching the rear 4 inches and front 2 inches and removing the frame links front and rear to make for some longer links. Am considering leaving the frame links where theay are. This topic is requiring some thought right now. Any suggestions? should I leave the frame factory link brackets or start over on the brackets in pursuit of longer arms? am not planning coilovers. in fact I want to keep 4-6" lift and chop the fenders for only about 6" uptravel. way wide and low as possible. looking for around 23" at frame on 40-42" tire.

I was thinking HP to keep the driveshaft out of the rocks. It seems that the conversion is harder than my buddy described it. How much work is it?

It is alot of work and lots of $$$. I have a HP D60 with passenger drop and 65" WMS to WMS on my FJ40.
The axle was custom built and it was not cheap. I would let an experienced axle shop do the work.
My axles were built by Texas Auto Gear in Houston, TX. I'm very happy with them.

If you really must have a HP 60 with passenger side drop, I think the best option is to buy an aftermarket HP center section and have it custom built with new tubes and Dedenbear C's and knuckles.

As I consider the restricted uptravel limitations imposed by the oilpan and other stuff in the front I am not as eager to try and make high pinion work.

5.38's are the max for HP60's, so you'd have to buy 2 new gearsets = not worth the effort in this case. Just throwin this out there, but have you thought about a dry sump oil system to negate the low oilpan/ clearance issues? Yeah, it'd be custom, but I'd like to see someone do it to their LC six :bounce2:

I saw your build. I wish I had the fab skills and patients for more engine tinkering but right now I just want big meats RIGHT NOW. Im working on getting the above axles delivered complete with new yucons, hubs (no selectables for me as tcase is ft4wd), spindles, dedenb knuckles, yota flange adapters, disk brakes, and diff covers. and some evolution joints. Just weld it up and go. Budget is already way blown. guy on pirate has all the stuff and is suposed to be putting it all together for me. But untill it is im my garage it dont matter...

the axle deal I shared above fell through so I will need to do a lot more work on my own. I have a few unanswered questions

But today I found a good pair in madesto ca and drove down and got them. I got a single rear wheel front dodge d60 (67" wms). and a single rear wheel d70 with a true 35 slines (65" wms). 4wparts had a killer sale today for those who missed it. I ordered 4 42/14/16 bias iroks on 16" model 97 rockcrusher wheels (buy 3 tires get one free). also ordered pair of 35 spline arbs and spicer 586 r&p's (buy one r&p and master install and get one free and a free compressor). I didn't order the install kit for the d70 because I was told it differs by year.
HOW DO I TELL WHICH YEAR D70 I HAVE so I can get the right install kit?

Also ordered "Alloy" brand 35 spline inners and outers for front and will keep the stock d70 rear axle shafts. do you think the stock 70 shafts will hold? ;) JK they are beef and should do fine. I only want the upgraded front shafts as I am adding 35sp outers anyway and the front shafts will be more work to change if need be.
I need some 35sp flanges for the hubs (no lockouts) if anyone has some for sale. The d60 I baught has flanges (no hubs) but they are 30 spline if anyone wants them

I am considering running the stock 80 driveshafts as I have a 2 pairs of them. I know nothing of these adapters

anyone use this sort of thing. will they hold? If there is going to be a weak link I wouldn't mind it being my driveshafts as long as they arn't too weak

here are the axles. I will just order bothe install kits for the d70 tomorow if nobody knows how to tell what d70 this is.

here is the hospital bed I just converted into an axle stand. it drops down to 20 inches and goes up to about the waiste. both ends of the bed can be raised and lowered indapendant of each other. and the 2 steering castors and the 2 fixed castors can be locked indapendently. bed is rated at 500lbs. I have seen patients of 300lbs+ sleeping on these beds with their mates of similar magnitude. I hope it holds

nice, and the 'patient' is a Dana 60 I assume?

very resourceful, what does one cost apprx from a liquidator???

install kit

Actually there are 3 different bearing kits. D70 d70HD d70u.
What is it out of? What is the BOM number? This starts with a 6 and is on a metal tag, or stamped into the axle tube. If you cant find this, than inner pinion brg number and carrier brg number will tell for sure. As far as the rear shafts, the stock 35sp is pretty strong, but we do offer some upgraded ones that are fairly inexpensive too.

As was said above BOM is the best way.But bearing nubbers can get you what you need and tell you what pinion offset you have.

Stock 1.5" 35 spline axles take alot of abuse, but I have since upgraded to a set of Mosers :D

I don't know. But they are free if the hospital has left them outside and you drive by in pickup:cool: seriously these things get tossed all the time by hospitals but most haul them away because they have no discrete place to store junk. My hospital has a jusk pile. Anyone need a xray machine? there is one sitting in back of the hospital right now. it probably throws out enough radiation to cook your pizza. Im waiting for them to upgrade the MRI so I can have the 3000lb magnets in the old one.....

ouch. and if you have the 55 iron pig then the 80 series must be the iron hefer

Should be a BOM stamped into one of the axle tubes.Should be a 6XXXXX-X type of number.Could be hidden under some paint, goop, or rust maybe?

Here is my post form Pirate when I couldnt find the BOM on my 70 :D

install kits for gears Are still pending. I wish I hadn't ordered these from 4wheelparts.

I am still stumped on finding a pinion flange for the dana 60 and 70 that will allow me to use my toyota driveshafts. I believe I have searched well but cant find em. Anyone know where to get these? otherwise I will need to use one of those conversion ujoints and I don't want to do that iff poss

Check Highangledriveline. Jess has them for mini truck.

thanks so much. I will be giving them a call tues (darned holliday)

Got some more done last night. tore down the d60 and press washed it today. perhaps i can clean it up with wire and sand tomorow. I have never tore into one before-beefy.

My little bro is down for the holliday and cleaned all the old brackets off the frame-he does great work. I wish he could just live at my house for a few weeks and finish the build for me.
