My first memory of this 1976 FJ55 was at age 3, when I turned over the keys left in the ignition while my brother and I waited for our mom to return from shopping, and it jumped the parking embankment and came to rest inside the shattered plate glass window of a laundromat. My final memory of one of the last times it was driven is of my dad reversing a length of cable to pull the 1-ton dump truck filled with gravel that I was driving in winter from a ditch across a county road. In between, I learned how to drive stick and will never forget my dad ensighting a bull bison at the Bison Range in MT to charge the driver side and rock the vehicle several times before retreating.

Sadly, my dad passed away in recent times and I would now like to sell this treasured family vehicle work horse to someone that will love it as much as we did growing up and restore it to its former glory.

I have the title and maintenance records dating back to the time my dad purchased it from a southern ID dealership in August of 1976. It was last driven in 2003 and the current odometer reading is 94655.7. Within the last 10K miles, it received several standard tune-ups, lube jobs, and oil changes, and the muffler, exhaust manifold, PVC valve, coil wire to the distributor were replaced. The ignitor box was by-passed in this time as well. The alternator was replaced at 82K, the brakes at 72K and the shocks at 58K miles.

I have a lot of pics, but will start with these here. Typical rust for this model, sadly enough, and both front floor boards have holes at the frame edge. Window gaskets and headliner will need to be replaced. But the upholstery and interior are in pretty good condition. And everything throughout is original, including the engine, which was rebuilt in 1984 at 60K miles.

Please let me know what additional information I can provide to help arrive at the best price for this. I greatly appreciate everyone's time and help :)🙏

Great stories and memories!

To me, a truck like that is a $2500-$3500 deal. I bought and restored a pig ('76 in fact, in red and white) years ago. That truck will need serious work after sitting for 23 years. You could charge more for it, and maybe get it, but the next guy will spend plenty getting it in shape. Looks very clean and has cool stuff like a clean hood and front bumper, mirrors, rims, etc.

You might inflate the tires, pull it forward 20 feet, and wash it - it would present a lot better. It looks so dang forlorn!

Cool stories for sure but sadly sentiment doesn't apply to a value in most cases.

I'm with the $3000-$3500 but would have to see more pics. Giving it a good power spray would help a lot, however the rust is a killer for sure as the 2 pics only show whats evident. Everything under the hood after sitting for 23 years is likely not in the best condition. I can only guess rodents have had a time with the wiring.

Seats and things don't get much value as many are swapping them out. Pics of interior may help some though.

What does rear of the vehicle look like? Have the corners been crunched by the original bumper that came on these?

That being said, lots of parts to sell from door hardware if doors rusted, tailgate internals. Someone just opened their project tailgate and now needs Torsion bar. Things like that are needed in the pig world.

Not saying scrap it but it will take special person with skills or deep pockets to make it work. So many of these have been pushed to back and left to rot, I will never understand how that happens.

On the other hand, $30,000-$40,000 invested into this truck will reward you with a vehicle which will last another 50 years and be far more reliable than a $40,000 new car will ever be.

Your memories of this vehicle can be passed on to future generations, but it'll only mean something to them if they have memories in the rig too. Without the rig, they are simply stories.

In the short term however, sitting outside is not helping this vehicle maintain value.

Thank you for replying to my post, I appreciate the information everyone is providing. I'm pretty bummed my dad parked it in 2003 with what seems to be the intention of never driving it again but at the same time, not selling it. My guess is he was just too attached to it and the memories. I will provide more pics as my time allows. TY!

Sad stuff for sure, As expected the rust demons have had their way. I sure hope you can get someone to give you fair price and make it right by getting her up and running.

Picked up my 1982 40 from Sandpoint several years ago. Drove it all the way home to Tulsa with my father, great trip and saw some beautiful scenery!

I think its worth something for cores like the engine, tranny/transfer, axles, maybe other small parts.
Good luck. I would post in the for sale make an offer.
