I'm a new guy to this forum and I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. So...Hello.

I own a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser. It has been the wife's grocery getter since we bought it back in 2002. I had a Land Rover Defender that I 4-wheeled frequently. Recently, I got tired of always making excuses for why the Land Rover was always breaking down, leaking, running rough, smoking, etc., etc. So I wised up and got rid of the Defender and now I'm driving the TLC full time. I'm no stranger to Toyotas, I have owned a 4 Runner back in '95 and a Celica back in '90. (It was my college car and I loved it.)

Anyway, the only mods that I have done to the TLC is to put a set of Bazo 20" chrome 5 spoke rims and a set of low profile Goodyear Eagle's on it. (It was the wife's car when I did that, and my Defender was kitted out with 35" BFG MT's, drop springs, etc.) But, now that I'm driving the TLC full time, there are going to be some things that I'm gonna want to do to it. I look forward to reading your posts, and thanks for having me here.

Welcome...pleasure to have you aboard. You will find a wealth of information within existing posts (i.e. "Search" feature) as well as friendly folks that share their love of Landcruisers to assist with new info.

Thanks man, glad to be here. This Toyota thing is going to take some getting used to. I mean, it's a nice, comfortable, capable truck that runs forever basically. What a concept. It's gonna be wierd not chatting about how often my D-90 won't start, how impossible it is to find the parts I need, or why Land Rover stopped importing Defenders to the States back in '97. Those threads seem to make up about 95% of the posts on the LR D-90 boards. Yep....this is gonna take some gettin used to.
 
The 2000 is a great truck. How many miles on the beast. What maintenance have you done or looking to do in the future. Even though they are built well they do require you stay on top of the pm. Now show us the money......wrong movie...the pics!

The difference between a Defender and an LC is like night and day - luxury vs. ultimate simplicity. Too bad you got rid of the LR - I wanted one to replace my Wrangler as the "farm truck." Given the limited imports, at least you probably didn't lose any $$ on it.

OTOH, the 20" wheels with low profile Eagles sounds more like an Escalade.

I know the differences between the LR and the LC, believe me. I owned a Range Rover for several years as well. The TLC is much like the RR in terms of amenities, off road capabilities and comfort, but definitely more reliable. And as for the Defenders ( I had a D-90 and a D-110) the simplicity thing is kind of a misconception. The NAS versions of those vehicles are now 10 to 13 years old and many of the parts are no longer accessible or are outrageously expensive. And the fact that they're English makes them just quirky enough to make it a PITA to work on at home. Excellent off road ability, especially on the rocks, but they suck as a daily driver. Suck. I have plenty of pics of those rigs if you guys care to see them. I know they're not LC's but they're all I have right now. It's all 4x4 porn, isn't it?

As for the 20"s....well, I put the 20"s on when it was still new to us and it was my wife's full time ride. It needed new tires when we got it and the stock rims looked pretty beat, so I just slapped a wheel/tire combo on. It looks nice, but it IS very "blingy." Since we had the D-90 sitting on MT's, I went the other direction with the LC. But enough about that. I plan on switching them out once it's time to replace the tires again in a year or so. Who knows, maybe I'll wind up selling them to someone on this board. ;-)

The truck is in the shop right this minute. The check engine light came on yesterday and it threw a fault code for an oxygen sensor. No big deal, it's covered under warranty. Woohoo. So today I'm driving a loaner Corolla. That's right. Corolla. I DID test drive a new FJCruiser today though, just for fun, and it was awesome...but that's a different thread. Anyway, once I get my LC back I'll take some pics and upload them here.

This is actually only the 2nd time in the 3 years or so that we've owned this truck that it's been to the shop. The last time was because one of the middle row seatbelts stopped retracting. Again, the warranty covered it. I couldn't be happier with this truck, honestly. We keep it maintained regularly, and as yet, have not offroaded it at all. So far it has really only been used to haul the kids around in, take long driving vacations to the mountains and pull our 20' boat around. I'm not planning on getting rid of it anytime soon...especially with the way the new '08's look.

The LC is excellent for your current and future use. I enjoy taking back roads while traveling (e.g. forest roads) for a more scenic and interesting trip. The LC is excellent in all respects and does well on either paved or off road, so I have felt quite comforable going places I never dreamed of in other vehicles. I have been frustrated when a paved road is closed because of snow and they won't even let me go - but then, I found other roads that I may not have traveled otherwise. Welcome, and enjoy your ride.

I'll throw in a couple of my old rover's too, just so you know where I'm coming from. Speaking of rovers...take a look at my driveway where my Defender 110 used to be parked. lol...enjoy.

LOL....I live in Tampa, man. Who else am I gonna pull for? I'm a season ticket holder...and this year they sucked. I was THIS close to wearing a brown bag on my head for a couple of games but I didn't.

Oh, and Vick was my fantasy QB last year. He's a playmaker alright. And a heartbreaker too. lol....

No comments about my ride? I'm crushed. What about the ol' D-90? And how bout those f***ing English oil stains on the drive way! :mad:
 
We can't see your ride because of all the glare from the wheels :)

Damn. You do have a lot of oil stains.
 
What do I use to get rid of the oil stains anyway? I have a pressure washer that I've used on them before but the result is less than ideal. Bleach? Is there something else on the market you guys know about maybe?
 
I had a 97 D-90 in Arlys blue...........I loved that rig!

Buy some Castrol Super Clean and a stiff brush and your driveway will look new.
 
haha those oil stains are great.

And dont listen to what everyone says, i like the rims ;) Thought they were 18 at first but that side shot confirms, 20".

So, whats the plan with her?
