I'm all over the castrol super clean, thanks for the tip.

As for my plans for the truck, I need to switch out the crapped out in-dash CD player for an aftermarket NAV system first off. Then I'd like to switch out the headlights for something better and brighter. These 2 mods are top priority.

As for the tires and rims, since the TLC is going to be MY daily driver, kid hauler and boat puller, I think I'd like to find a wheel/tire combo that's a bit more rugged and aggressive than what I have now. But, I don't want (or need) to go to the trouble/time/expense of a dramatic lift and all that that involves (new drive shafts, castor correction, shocks, springs, etc.) I spent a retarded amount of money on mods for the D-90 and it was awesome, just not something I need to do to the TLC. I used to 4 wheel in the D-90 a LOT, with frequent trips to Tellico TN, and the mountinas of western NC, but now that we're back in FL and have 2 small kids, I'm not seeing that happening in the forseeable future. :-( The TLC is too nice, rides to well, and needs to retain it's family friendly qualities but it also needs to get me to the fishing hole and back as well. What I need is a good compromise. I'll keep on doing research and see what I come up with.

Anyone know the max tire size that I can run without modifying the stock lift? Or, what am I going to get into with a mild (1" or 1.5") lift and 31" or 33" tires? And while we're talking about wheels, what are my choices besides the usual OEM options? Anyone?

No lift = 285R75 16 from my own experience (MT/R's) and I think you can run 295R75 16 without lift...although tire selection in this size is more limiting. Other than custom steel wheels alloy wheel selection/availability is sparse at best for 98+ LC/LX. IMO you are better off staying with the OEM wheels and putting your $$$ elsewhere for bigger difference/fun stuff.

I put set of bilsteins on my 99, made a big handling difference. They would help a lot if you go with the bigger 285/75/16's. I would not get a Mud tire for a daily driver. Get a good AT. BFG AT/KO's are good and so are REVO's and you can get both in a LT rated tire with the stiffer side walls. Good luck let us know what you do.

I agree with SWUtah on the tires and shocks. For light bulbs I recommend the HIR bulbs for the LC - best bang for the buck.

The LC allows 3rd party options on the audio. If you really wanted the factory NAV, I would recommend buying an LC with it. Although I appreciate the NAV now that I have it in the LX, I would not make it a priority if the LC did not have one. Instead I would look at after market Tom Tom or Garmin units - much more useful. If I was looking for another 100 right now, I still would not place the NAV as a priority.

I put bilsteins on my '95 Range Rover and it made a HUGE difference in handling. The D-90 came with Bilsteins on it, but I eventually chaged them for Rancho 9000's when I lifted it and installed drop out cones for the rear. I always liked those shocks as well.

Right now the TLC handles great. Since switching to the,ahem...20" wheel and GoodYear Eagle combo, it drives much more straight and stiff. Nice and firm, I like it. I think that a good AT is where I'm headed, just looking for better wheel options than stock. I was never a big fan of how they looked on my 2000 TLC, and besides I sold them on ebay when I got my 20"s. What I'd like is a set-up similar to what I ran on the D-90 but with AT's instead of MT's. The stance and offset on the D-90 was killer. I was running 33"x12.50"x15" BFG MT KO's on that with black American Racing steel wheels. I think 31" BFG AT's on black steelies would look killer on my TLC.

I agree the black steelies would look good with your color LC and you can't go wrong with the BFG AT/KO's they last forever and are tough tires. Take some pic's when you do the mod.

Welcome. I too agree with Steelies, but I doubt they'll be the right offset.

Welcome, TPeacock.

Nice D90. Sorry you had to give it up.

Model Year 2000 TLC you say?

1) Did your starter contacts wear out yet?

2) Did your exhaust mainfolds crack or leak yet?

3) Did your CD player crap out yet....OH, I see from your prior post that it did.

4) Do you feel a thunk when you take your foot off the brake and start to drive forward?

I swapped the CD player for an aftermarket NAV unit. Since the TLC has a 2-din sized hole, I installed a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 with BlueTooth, iPod and camera a few months ago. Was a virgin, so it took me a while to find all the connections. But the benefits were all worth it. So far so good. I envy my wife, who drives it all day.

If you don't have the patience to install in-dash, (or don't want to pay somebody to do it), you can get by with the aftermarket units. I have Magellan RoadMate 700 that works pretty well. Many more have come to market since. Check out the ones with a Hard Drive inside. 10 to 20GBytes can hold the entire North American map database. No fussing with memory cards.

Welcome.

Thanks Dad. My truck only has like 40K miles on it, so there have been ZERO issues so far. It runs like it was brand new. Just replaced an O2 sensor last week, covered under warranty (even my rental car) so it's been great, knock on wood.

Unlike the many Land Rovers I've owned that cost me a minimum of $1000 every time it went to the shop, which honestly was about every other month at least, the TLC has been a walk in the park. Japanese, man. Japanese. I had a Discovery, a Range Rover, a D-90, and a D-110, and I saw every single one of those trucks on the back of a flat bed getting towed to the shop at one time or another.

A good friend of mine and long time 4 wheeling buddy has a D-90 with a bumper sticker that reads, "All of the parts falling off of this vehicle are of the finest English craftsmanship." That pretty much sums it up.

As for the NAV unit, I think that pioneer unit is where I'm headed. NAV and bluetooth are a must, and now I'm sold on the back up camera as well.
