My 2000 LX470 had an annoying rattle, which turned out to be from rusted out heat shields. They were in pretty bad shape, considering that the vehicle has only 150,000 miles on it. Screws/bolts were rusted up, so had to rip them out with pliers. Pic attached.
Here are the replacement part numbers, available at McGeorge Toyota:
- 18436-50040
- 18435-50080
I am debating if I should bother replacing them at all. I have 32" tires on the original 16" wheels, so a few more inches of ground clearance should reduce any chances of starting forest fires (what all the warnings are about!). Also, there seems to be another layer (soft, non-metallic) of heat protection above the exhaust manifold, but under the body ... so I think it should be fine. Anyone else left them off? Pls lmk. Thanks
