Headlight adjust from Japan to USA

Previous Japan auction winners that now own the vehicles in the US, did you have the headlights adjusted Before or After delivery to the US?

You can replace the old RHD sealed beam headlights with LHD factory halogen upgrades (81110-60P70) which are available domestically for around $20. The beam pattern is built into the sealed unit so you can’t adjust a RHD headlight to function like a LHD unit.

The full replacement kit which includes the mounting buckets and chrome surrounds is 81110-60P90, but I think it’s now only available overseas.

I find it hard to believe that there's a bunch of JDM LC 70 series driving around the US blinding oncoming traffic.

It's hard to believe stock 70-series lighting blinding anything I've not found the RHD vs LHD headlight issue to be noticeable on the various JDM Cruisers I've owned, though some of them may have been converted to LHD headlights in Canada. Fortunately the narrow nose 70 uses a standard round sealed beam headlight and there are tons of replacement options and upgrades, both factory and aftermarket, should it become an issue for you.

Maybe most folks do it themselves or have it done locally? It’s a pretty easy swap and the LHD headlight kits may be easier to come by in the US than Japan. But the added value comes more from the halogen upgrade than the difference in beam pattern.

If they seem confused, I would just pick them up at your local Toyota dealer and do it yourself. It’ll take no more than an hour, even if you take your time.

The county authorities are just itching to keep JDM vehicles off the roads. Been told they'll look for any excuse.
Seems they are on a crusade, along with the state capitol, to "remove the dirty and unsafe vehicles off Wisconsin roads..."

The city authorities could care less - "if you're not breaking any federal laws and not bothering anyone, we don't care what you drive."

Yes, you can fill an HS-7 (I think that is the full name) form to let Toyota grant you access to parts through US dealers. It can save you some headaches.

The more parts access you have, the better.

It’s not something you ask Toyota for. The HS-7 form is required to import the vehicle. Not exactly sure what you do opposite Toyota US but I assume I would start by giving them a copy.

Oh... well I'll just have to wait until after the vehicle gets to me.
Was hoping to notify the dealership so they can find what they can and can't order.

81110-60P70 is definitely available in the US. They use the same round sealed beam lights on the 40 series and J60s, I think.

I’d recommend making friends with your local parts manager. I just email him a list of part numbers and he tells me what he can get. He gives me their internet pricing too and I don’t have to pay for shipping.

A little explanation here.

If you import a non-US Market Toyota vehicle, you cannot order parts from Toyota US.

The HS-7 (I keep forgetting the full name) form grants you access to non-US models parts when you order from Toyota US. With this access, you give them the part number and they get it for you.

Otherwise, you have to source parts through other suppliers.

81110-60P70 does come with an upgraded wiring harness and relay so that you don’t burn up your factory harness with increased amperage from the halogens. It just doesn’t have the buckets or chrome rings.

It’s plug and play. You just plug it into your existing headlight connector, wire it to the battery, attach the relay to the apron and plug the harness into to the new headlights.

81110-60P70 does come with an upgraded wiring harness and relay so that you don’t burn up your factory harness with increased amperage from the halogens. It just doesn’t have the buckets or chrome rings.

It’s plug and play. You just plug it into your existing headlight connector, wire it to the battery, attach the relay to the apron and plug the harness into to the new headlights.

That's good to hear.

Would be great to take care of it without having to get the full kit.
