My Costco (Bend, Oregon) has a deal on LED headlamps - check it out at yours. They're in the Auto/Sports area. You get 3 lamps with Duracell batteries for $9.99! They are excellent fit with 4 position switch - off, high, low and flash. Adjustable strap and tilt on beam direction. Acceptable quality, too. I'd jump all over it. If you've ever tried one camping or even working on a rig at night, you know how spoiled you can get with a headlamp:rolleyes:

Hopefully your Costco headlamp will work better and last longer than the cheap POS LED made in china flashlight "deal" I bought, also at Costco, a couple years ago!

I bought a pack of 3 pos led flashlights from them a couple years ago and not a single issue with those crappy flashlights. Bright and reliable.

^ sounds like the same package of 3 I bought. I want to say they were $15 or $20. When they were working they'd eat right threw 3AA in no time. But then all three have since died...I should have taken the darn things back.

I purchased the same Costco 3-pack of flashlights 2-3 years ago. They killed batteries because the switch had a parasitic drain. I purchased another 3-pack 6-12 months ago and can say they've been improved. I think I am still on the first set of batteries.

80t0ylc, thanks for the heads-up on the headlamps. I'll look for them.

Yep, Costco did a major improvement on that 3 pack of little flashlights. I returned 6 of the old style and got 6 of the new ones and they're still on the same batteries and used twice as much as the old ones. The ones you want have a black rubber tail click button, the crap ones had a white/clearish rear button.

This thread seems on HEADlamps though and I'd love to have a few cheap ones for wrenching and such so I quit getting oil on my nice one. Will also check for them and report back.

lumens?

Don't have the specs, but they have 10 LEDs. Costco website doesn't have 'em. They fit comfortable. Batteries load easily and securely for good connection. Here's a couple of pics on my gray wrinkled head. (there is both red and blue covers on headlamps in package):

32 lumens is not a lot. but darn cheap of course. So probably a decent buy if you need them or can use them. Maybe the kind of thing to have in your glovebox just in case you need to change a tire at night. Then you'd be glad to have one.

32 lumens is plenty bright for most campsite task, if they were much brighter they would totally kill your night vision and the glare would be awful. I was screwing around out in the yard last night with mine and I think they are just about the right amount of illumination for most outdoor stuff.

It's not like you need enough light to do a bypass operation or anything.

eric always needs more light than the average human...

nah, just enough to fry a bear at 20 paces... :) did I already say I don't like mixing bears and camping?

I have a nice Petzl. Something like 60 lumens or so. Nice and bright. But it has a lower setting and also a red LED, so too much light is not exactly a big problem. I do find myself using the red light more than I originally thought, interestingly.

But as I said for $10 one can't go too wrong. My Petzl was more like $60.

You better hurry on the 3 pack of 200 lumen lights. The asterisk on the upper right of the price card means that Costco is getting rid of them and won't cary them any longer.
