Eimskip sails to Boston, Norfolk and Halifax.

I´m sure I can get it in a ship that leaves Iceland the 18th of November, then It will arrive to Boston the 28th. to Norfolk the 1st of December or to Halifax the 5th of December

Oh good, you can drop it off at Boston...and I'll swap you my very fuel efficient 2010 diesel car :)

It's fair!

Very nice rig. I hope somebody can import it, I wish I had the extra cash.:frown:

ummm, torfab, your reasoning is incorrect but please feel free to drop the coin.

Just to expand on the question of US importation:

The issue is not just the chassis being LHD. The lesser of the issues is the mods; technically they're probably illegal in some way but in practice, that would be relatively easy to deal with. The bigger issue is the engine. Yes, there are 1HD-T powered trucks here but they were all imported with 3FE or 1FZ under the hood and converted afterwards by individual owners.

Can you maybe get away with registering it in a permissive state like Florida? Yes, maybe. But it's not legal in the US at the federal level, unless it goes through a registered importer (an "RI" - at a cost of $10k+!) or is at least 25 years old. This means that it could be confiscated and crushed. This, in turn, happened to a bunch of the Skyline people - the feds woke up on the wrong side of the bed one day and decided to go after all the gray-market GTR's.

Yes, it's lame that they put all of these barriers in place. Do I feel safer as an American, knowing that gray-market GTR's aren't buzzing around? Um, no. Do I hope that Haffi decides to put this truck in his garage for 4 years and then ship it to the States? Yeah, I think that would be awesome! But for now, going through an RI or taking your chances on a state registration (too risky IMHO) are the only routes to have this truck in the States.

Love this truck, sad to see you have to sell it. GLWS!

The EPA rules for the engine/emissions is 21 years, so this one is exempt

Oops, you're right on the emissions part. However, NHTSA still governs the rest of the vehicle, and 25 years is their rule. Someone previously petitioned to bring in an 80-series, and they agreed - IF a registered importer makes the changes detailed on this website:

Federal Register, Volume 62 Issue 135 (Tuesday, July 15, 1997)

My initial estimate of $10k may have been too high, but I do think an RI would charge far more than you might otherwise expect for the jobs described there, simply because they have to be done by an RI. But hey, call one and ask if you're seriously interested in the truck. The good news about that document linked above is that an RI can import it. For some models (read: Skylines) the door is basically closed and the cars can't be imported by anyone, at any price.

Unfortunately, the conclusion is the same: you either go the RI route and pay (though thankfully not as much as I'd believed), or you go the "state registered" route and hope that nobody looks too closely. On the one hand it's not nearly as high-profile as a Skyline, either to individual officers or in a VIN database. But it's still federally illegal until it's either been through an RI, or turned 25.

The Toyota Land Cruiser LHD is actually on the NHTSA "safe list" for importation. The only difficulty you would encounter is if the car is RHD

However shaggy mutt is right, you still need to hire a registered importer to bring it in for you
