Oem fst doors fit very good to hardtops btw
When fitting FST doors to a hardtop, do you just have to cut a slot out of the door hinges for the doors to drop in?

You can use the factory oem canvas door tub side (female side) hinges … then you can use the male (door side) hinges on your oem hard doors so you can easy on and off the hard doors as well

You could also use the hard door hinges … and just pop the pin when removing as you would the hard doors… just much lighter

On the tube side that's really the only difference is the front of the top cut to allow the factory soft top doors to slide down. Could also just use the hard top hinges on the FST doors will not have the ability to easy remove them. Depending on the year of you cruisers and year of the factory soft top doors they may not fit tight allow the B pillar. The door opening was straight on corrugated tops. Later tops with rear corner windows the B pillar angles in. FST doors thru the 73 model are straight on the B pillar. Few 74 and 75 FST made it to the US. Most markets FST had hard doors. US market were only soft doors.

Looked who showed up!

Only issue I had with the door hinge pin was with the windshield in place the pin scratched the paint on the windshield.

Thanks for the input guys.

So I have a 1978, with no top or doors and Im trying to make an FST out of it. I found some FST doors although Im not 100% sure the seller knows either.

Can you tell what year these came from? They look the same as the doors on the US 1975 FST I had years ago, which I would think would fit a 1978 just fine because I dont know of any differences between the 1975 body and the 1978 body.

Ideally I would like to be able to take these on and off easily. What would you guys do in my situation? I dont ever plan on putting a hardtop or hard doors on this 40.

Look to be in good shape. Guessing the B pillar is straight. Would have to put a straight edge along the outside to be 100% sure. The handles for Factory soft top doors are hard to find. The handle also latch to the B pillar bow not the tub. With the B pillar bow and door header installed it's stronger set up than any other type of soft type.

Does anyone have a close up pic of what the factory soft top tub-side (female) hinge looks like?

These might work.

Im not 100% sure what you mean when youre talking about the straightness of the B Pillar. Are you saying that the B Pillar angles inward toward the center of the cabin on certain years? Are you saying an FST door from a US 1970-1973 would be straight while an FST door from a US 74-75 would be angled inwards at the top half?

Well Importarchive.com says Spring Green was one year only, 1970. LINK

But Im not sure thats correct

Im guessing this is what you mean. This is a 1978 Tub with a FST B Pillar bow in original Spring Green.
I dont know which year this FST B Pillar came off of, I found it in a junk yard a very long time ago. Im not sure what year they stopped offering Spring Green, but I think sometime in the early 70s. Thats a HifLift jack handle and its straight, showing the inward tilt of the b pillar.

Your B pillar bow looks to have been modified for hard doors. About a foot up on the inside looks like a section was cut and now was angled in. This will fit hard doors from the mid 1960s and later. If you had a hard top side you could see the angle is where the bottom of the side window. Spring Green in the US market that bow would have been straight.

This is my 2/73 FST. It hasn't been registered for the road since 1988.

It came with a 72 FHT doors and hard top when I bought it. Can see the hard top hinges installed.

I've removed the hinges and only installed the upper passenger side. Other are still loose for pictures.

Wow that Pollux orange FST is awesome.

Actually my B Pillar in that pic is just bent, not altered. I just tried the passenger side one and it goes straight up. Its pretty much useless anyway as the actual bow is cut off, its only the pillar. I wont be using that, but will be using the door header that came with it.

Im still unclear on which years came with straight B pillars and which years they angled in.

Here is a level on my 73 B pillar.

Those would be easy to make by just cut half off and using a file to round the sharp corners down.

The Vader light on the FST was replaced with the same interior light used on the hard top. Since this light fits in the B pillar the part number for the bow changed. I have never been able to figure out if the bow changed to an angle to match the hard doors. My guess since so few markets used soft door maybe not. 1/76 the US required three point seat belts in the front. Seat belt did not move to the roll bar until 2/78. Soft top ended no later than 12/75 in the US. Number of FST imported compared the FHT was way down toward the end. Seen very few 75 FST ever show up on mud.

When the hard top changed to rear corner windows the B pillar angled in. Not sure if the 74 FST angled in but up until 74 it was always straight.

Appears you deleted the post with the picture of the B pillar bow. Does the back of the bow have a channel to hold the top down to the tub. Other than the angle on later hard tops the channel is the difference between the two. The channel is cut to match angle at the top of the tub. If there is no channel could be hard just cut behind the B pillar.
After acquiring my 73 FST I was so impressed by
how stout bows were I acquired more bows and doors when I found them. Other than the FJ25/early FJ40 all the B pillar bows are the same.

This is what Im still trying to understand, what do you mean be "early" and "late"? What years, specifically.

Yes I deleted that pic since it was misleading because the pillar wasnt angled, it was damaged.
