The next part of the system a slide out tray that fits the rear floor area with the second row sets in. The idea is to fit 2 bins next to a fridge or 4 bins no fridge or the possibilities are infinite. The slide-out is made up of parts, in the picture the grey is steel, the purple is steel with tie-down points, and the 2 blue parts are a wood laminate panel. With the slide-out made of parts will help in keep shipping, materials and weight cost down.

I've been thinking about this a bit. I'm sure everyone would have their own little needs/wants in it. So... Here's my ideas. Take, leave or laugh at them at your discretion.

Needs to sit far enough back to clear a Milford barrier, but not by much... could even sit against it with a rattle pad in between.

Front (towards seats) end needs to be real tall - like back of seats tall - with tie down points on a rail at the top of it. I'm thinking 1/2" opening 8ga expanded steel or aluminum mesh (like catwalk material without the cleats) for the front & sides with a 1/2" square tube top rail welded to the mesh. Makes the entire top of the rail a tie down point by clipping a carabiner over the top rail through the mesh.

Sides need to be as tall as the top rail on the wheel well mounted carriers and have tie downs on a rail on top of them or use something like the mesh idea above.

Tailgate end of it is the trick... lower is better for access, none makes loading coolers easy... high keeps gear in place when the truck's tailgate is open. What about making a tailgate on the drawer to match the mesh walls idea above?

Automatic slide lock to keep it in place even if the truck's nose is pointed up when the slide is pushed in.

No rattles - it will need some way to lock it down so it doesn't shimmy-shake-rattle.

Just ideas. They may not even be good ones.

YMMV

great quality

Let me start by saying these are very nice, and Ken was nothing short of great to deal with, but....

Delivery sucks!! Being on the East coast and having nothing but bad experiences with UPS and FEDex I was expecting the worst, so I can't even say that I am disappointed or surprised. And it is worthless to try to file a claim because they will just make some excuse on why you did not pack it correctly. Sorry if any of you you work for UPS or FEDex, but I would say this to your face.
YOUR DEILVERY SERVICES (especially how you treat packages) SUCKS!!!!!!!!

one carrier the holes are not even round anymore the sheet metal is bent over on the side, and it is bent and torqued pretty good too. I have not tried to install them yet, but I would not doubt if it is not square anymore. this is thick steel, what the hell are they doing to stuff.

Are there any special hammers to bend metal back straight or curved or whatever? or something you would strike with a hammer. I work with wood and not steel, so I am kind of at a loss here as to how to fix then I guess I have to decide wether I am going to just spray paint it or bring it to a powdercoater.

Thanks advance for your thoughts

I had something shipped UPS a while back that was busted up, filed a claim and had a full reimbursement in two weeks:confused:

We installed the carriers yesterday and they are awesome. The design refinements make this much more useful than my prototype. I had a lot of fun working with Ken on this and it's nice to see the finished product taken to this level of quality.

Sorry for these crappy pics- we had a pro shoot some pics for install instructions so those will help the owners assemble. It's really easy though.
Powertank CO2 bracket mounted on the back- Plenty of room for a 10 or 15lb tank. (One extra hole drilled into the powertank bracket required.)

*note the 10lb tank can float, allowing for more storage underneath.

slotted holes add 14 new tie down points to the rear of your truck! Huge convenience and safety addition.

Jerry can tie down holes at the top edge so you don't have to go digging for a tie down point behind the cans.

btw, these carriers are much, much stronger than the prototype. Ken (and secret weapon code name V) designed an amazing bracket mounting that is genuis simple and strong.

FirstToy, so those tie down points can be used to secure the ARB Freezer/Fridge, right? I want a pair of this nice very :cool:custom built rack. Mods on 80s never ends:wrench::cool:

yes, tie down the fridge or anything else you happen to be carrying. These are going to be much stronger than the OEM loop tiedowns on the corners of the floor.
the carriers are stronger than anything else to mount to. no flex and rock solid. You can jump in these (if you were 3' tall!) and they would not budge.

what is the overall measurement between the two carriers and the height off the floor to the bottom of the part that sticks out a little from the support coming up from the floor. Would like to know the clearances for placing a "standard" drawer system between them.

In the vendor thread there is mention that he is on a 4k mi motorcycle trip with his fiance, so it would be a while before he returns messages.

Ken is a busy guy. His primary occupation is a firefighter. This time of year we have lots of fires in CA and I would guess that he is off fighting one. I believe that he has a three week "vacation" coming up during which time he will be working on bumpers and cargo carriers. Maybe send him a reminder and give him a little more time to respond. He is a good guy and would highly doubt that he is snubbing you. Just busy. For primary contact I would pm him off of this site.

hmm how many Lbs is that bottle in the back 10? i think my 15lbs is too tall...

We installed the carriers yesterday and they are awesome.

I need some measurements off the installed units.

What is the overhang of the jerry can holders over the floor vertical bracket?

What is the distance between the two jerry can holders?

What is the distance from the floor to the bottom of jerry can holder?

I have some other ideas for my interior. Before I order I need to know the remaining space.

Thanks.

He in fact left today for his trip and will be on the road with his fiance and his dog doing a 4k motorcycle ride on a couple of Adventure Bikes thru some of theupper states and lower Canada. Send him an E-Mail. That is the best way to get a hold of him. He won't be back for I think 3 weeks so I would hold off til then. He is Relaxing and enjoying the open road so I doubt he will reply in his down time. Have fun Ken and see you when you get back. Jason

Really nice but will interfere with my cargo barrier coming in and out while camping. Posted on vendor thread $375 for brand new if you pick up from me otherwise I will keep them and make them work.

Ken aint comin back! He couldn't find his passport but no worries...apparently not required for a US citizen enter Canada.. But I suspect Uncle Sam may not let him back into the US without one. Don't worry. Well keep him well fed and watered..and busy making cool 80 series parts for us.
