I'm on it.

Josh were you able to do this? I posted in another thread i'd be willing to go over to his house but forgot about the main thread.

Still working on the details. Starter died in the 62 last night so that put a damper on the plans. Will let everyone know asap.

Steve the tub I have is a 64, it is only the tub and windshield most everything else has been stripped out. If that will work let me know as soon as you can and I will get it loaded on the flatbed and bring it over Friday AM and leave it for the weekend. Get me a list of what tools you need and I will bring those as well.

I sent an email to ACC Toyota and will let you know what I hear ASAP. I think it will work but I want to double check.

Do you have a tubing notcher?

This is unbelieveably awesome. Maybe I should provide name tags so everyone (read: me) can place names with faces this weekend. I will be forever in ya'll debt. Thank you so much.
See you this weekend.

This is so Cool ! I am ready to leave Today

I have some info on lodging.

Marriott has offered us reduced rates.

There is a Marriott in Watkinsville probably only a few miles from the build site and maybe half a mile or so from the Reeves residence. We have been offered $64/night which includes breakfast. If you would like a room there please call the GM Pam Doonan @ 706-353-8484 to make your reservation. Mention to her that you are with the "Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier" group and if she has any questions please tell her to contact Toby Tolbert.

Booked my room at the Spring Hill Suite (by Marriott) and the staff was very supportive & followed through exactly as described. Thanks for pre-coordinating this.

Hello All,
Our home is open to everyone. We have a guest room with a double bed, 3 couches, a love seat, floor space and in the back yard we have places for tents and a large fire pit. (I might add, we have 3 dogs; all gentle.) The tents can be inside and/or outside the fenced area in the back. We could put some tents in the front yard also.

I so much appreciate all of the work that everyone has done for this build. This is an awesome group of folks. I never would have imagined the response that this project has received. My family is so excited to meet everyone. So I'll see ya'll in a couple of weeks.

Could you please comfirm my reservation for one of the couches :D But then again I will be happy with a Lawn chair and a Blanket at the Build Site

Mark here at Metal-tech - We can answer this, no problem over 800 cages sold and about 200 welded up by us.

Yes a tub for a 64 will work as a stand in for a roll cage. However keep in mind these points:

- The 64 does not have a dash pad. The A pillars for the cage are bent to clear the dash pad so just take a large piece of card board, bend it like its a dash pad and duct tape it temp. in place to mimic the dash. This will help with placing the A pillars so they don't contact the real dash.

- Make sure the windshield angle is the same as the project truck. They can change a bit if the gasket is warn or missing on the mock up tub. Bend a piece of wire to match the project truck then compare to the mock up tub set up. Again shove card board etc. under the windshield to match the angle.

- Think of the doors that are ran on the truck. If they are like the photos they are the early hard doors. Better yet if you can just hang a set of like doors or even the ones off the project truck on the mock up tub. You don't want to set the A pillar to close to the door, to where it will not open. At the same time you don't want the drivers A pillar in the way of the clutch peddle. The other option is to just temp. stand the A pillar in the project truck with the door closed and measure how far off the floor door sill it should sit.

Thanks Mark - little change though, the tub is a 74.

Steve - Once you have your cage team identified please have the lead person call me 800-839-0684 or my cell 503-330-3022. I can give them some pointers.

Mark

Mock up tub is a 74? If so even better if it has the dash in it and the 1974 hard doors.

Thanks Mark. I assume ACC Toyota (Michael or Brian) will be overseeing the cage install to some extent. I talked to Michael earlier and he said the 74 tub should be OK.

Thanks again!

No tubing notcher, but I will make some calls today and see if I can find one.
Billy

I can check on borrowing a friend's notcher. It does not functional notching ... not percision or works of art, but better than free-styling with the grinder. Is there a bench vise available there to clamp the notcher in?

What size of hole saws are needed?

I am not sure about a bench vise. I'll be in the warehouse on Friday AM and will know for sure.

The MetalTech cage is 2".

Also, the address of the build site is 1260 Greensboro Hwy, Watkinsville GA. It is a warehouse just on the southside of Watkinsville. If you see a Shell Station you have gone too far. Look for a sign that says "Classic City Cabinets" and some charter buses. Take that drive and we will be in the building on the left.

General schedule is:
Friday - get organized, lay out all parts, start wrenching
Saturday - start install of 2F/tranny/tcase, MetalTech cage install, disc brake swap
Sunday - finish Saturday work
Monday - tie up loose ends

We will not get the 40 finished this weekend. I hope to have a second round of work in the summer to focus on the body, lift and paint.

You DO NOT have to be a mechanic to help this weekend. If anyone wants to come and hand out coffee, hot chocolate (we will have coffee, I'm working on hot chocolate) help with cooking, etc then please come along.

We do have indoor work space and heaters so a little cold or damp weather shouldn't keep you away!

Are there any tools that anyone can think of that we need? I have two people looking for a notcher and a few have said they will bring air compressors. Anything particular else? hortonb has offered to bring tools and leave them for the weekend but I need to tell him what we need.

If anyone has questions this weekend call me at 864-787-4504.

Thanks!

...

Steve,
I have arranged to borrow a notcher for this weekend. I will need to pick up a 2" hole saw for it, but that is easy enough.

Thanks

Wanted to help on this but I have a PMP Certification test next week and really really need to pass this on the first go! Not only for monetary reason (test is expensive) but also to keep me from going freaking NUTZ from studying and worrying....

good luck and God Bless!
