I got my electrical contractors license back in july and working out of the wagon is getting old.

should I go for a simple flat bed for ease of construction(top of platform just below the level of the door handles), or step the sides up to clear the tires and have the main floor hug the frame? OR should I do a low slung platform and cut the wheel arches in(so....2 humps right about the middle of the plat...)

and how should the designation of this variant be written? I have been thinking FJ50/2 or FJ55HCPB(half cab plat back) or should it be North American Tray Back?

It would, too. I have looked at those...and the 70 series beds. I am going to have to fab it for costs, although if someone has a 45 or 70 series bed they're dying to get rid of, I'd be happy to "take it to the dump" for you!. When the body swap happens, I will be doing a body reto on the 77. I have been dreaming of new ready to weld in floor support, rockers, and floor boards:hillbilly:

Maybe a military M101 bed would work. If you look on Government Liquidation, you can bid on some cheap ones. 2 to 3 hundred , then sell or scrap the frame.

hadn't even thought of that. HMMM. Thanks!

Any news on your piggup project?
It's lookin' pretty good from pictures.

bit of a resource problem. Need to get some more steel and a rear window and then figure out the bed. I did some patch panels inside the cab last weekend and ended up catching a burr in my eye. That was fun. I plan to pick back up on it as things slo down round here a bit.

Well, good luck.

If you're lookin' for a window, I have the rear glass from my old '65 Chevy, just needs a channel and a gasket.
Yours for pickup or shipping.

flat bed with channel iron front and rear hoop. 6+" fold down sides 1 1/8" marine grade plywood deck. My first thought was to go about 2" wider on both sides than the body, but I am now thinking about matching the body width. gunna have about 76 inches of bed length, ending flush with the rear frame crossmember. got windshield arrangements and found glass for the back. also got some 74 door without the wing windows coming. drivers floor is rotten. I might just spring for some of Bobs art.(almost hate to put my feet on those floor panels he's makin) I got three days of fab, 2 days of grinding and filler work, and about three days on the swap left to go.

I know, huh.......if I could do it based on an LC axle:hillbilly:

pulled out windshield, and dash pad, and cut out the front floor boards(too much rust for me to ignore) SORRY, Bob, but your uber artful sheetmetal will have to wait till I restomod the 77-I couldn't justify the expense on this pork chop job. I am going to get the interior prepped and primed and lay the thing on its back against the rear wheels and then I gots to burn burn burn and paint the bottom. I just tacked all the underneath s*** in place cause I h8s welding over head.
