Did you do the 180 flip of the springs, or just move the whole assembly back?

Yes. However they also recquire a high range REDUCTION of 10% and are quite a bit louder then the 3:1, and 99% of new builds are not hardcore enough to need that much transfer case gearing so I don't really push them that much

My split case I had 3:1 installed but asked for 4:1 and was recommended that with my build 4:1 was over kill. But the 4:1 was available.
Done both over the years. On my othet H55F 40, I run FJ60 rear springs for the added length and improved ride.
How far back does it push the axle and do you need to modify the wheel well with the 60 springs? What did you use for the front springs when using 60 springs in the rear. Lastly, was the springs stock 60 or lifted 60 springs in the rear?
I have given thought to flipping 189, but was not sure how much the ride quality diminishes? An H55 is definitely on my wish list!

Longer wheel base will improve the ride. Rear axle further back will decrease the approach angle a little but improve the departure.
The BF1 split-case offers the highest number of options when compared to 1PC and HF1/HF2 variant t-cases. Strong case and a 7+ (rounding) different gear combinations

Approx 5", and yes I re-worked the wheel wells to suit. It's been 25 years (almost to the day) that I was doing the work so the exact numbers are a tad fuzzy

I flipped my rear springs probably 15 years ago, when I centered the rearend and went to a centered rear output tcase. I didn't really notice any differences in ride or offroad capabiities from driving it. Obviously there was an improvement, but it wasn't anything earth shattering or noticeable. And yes, you have to cut the wheel opening. You've moved the axle back about 3".
